The Goods:
Sweet Blanca is an (approximately) 2 year old, 50 lb., spayed, heartworm negative female who is up to date on all shots and boosters. She is very sweet, loving, playful, and trained in basic commands.
She is housebroken and crate trained and loves her crate. I believe her to be an English Pointer/American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She has a very short, white coat, sheds little and needs minimal grooming (comb her once a month, trim her nails, apply advantage and she's good to go). She is well-behaved, even at bath time, and would make an amazing companion for an experienced owner in a single-pet home.
Blanca's Story:
I found Blanca when she was a stray dog last September in East Austin. She had been living outside, on her own for an indeterminate time period, had infected ant bites all over her paws and muzzle, had a mean roundworm infestation, was starving and was very scared.
After the first night under the carport, a nice meal and a much-needed bath she warmed up to people and dogs almost instantly. Her first morning with me, she had just had a meal and a bath and was nervously lying on a pillow pile on the living room floor. She stretched, relaxed, and began showering me with kisses. She became part of the pack very quickly and is an extraordinarily grateful pup.
After living with my now ex and his dog for several months, Blanca was adopted in January. Unfortunately, that person dumped her at the Town Lake shelter after a few weeks. I got a call and rescued her from euthanasia at the shelter on February 9th.
These Days:
Blanca loves running on leash, fetching balls, frisbees and sticks, belly rubs, long naps, cuddling, being close to her pack, pointing at small birds and furries she sees outdoors, romping in the grass, tug-of-war, rope chew toys and kongs, and she's never happier than when playing with other dogs in the dog park.
She needs a yard to romp in and long runs every day. Since I don't have a yard, I'm running her/training her two hours daily. I'm in my last semester of college and the time and energy I've expended to foster this dog is jeopardizing my May graduation. She would be an easy dog for a knowledgeable owner with a fenced yard.
Blanca walks well at heel on leash with a Halti headcollar. (She's come a long way from her stray dog ways of weaving and pulling on leash, constantly sniffing the ground, eating things off the ground, etc.) Blanca is very respectful of humans' space and food. She is not a thief or a beggar, doesn't guard her toys or food, she doesn't hop onto counters or get into garbage and she won't destroy your stuff or mess up your house. She is eager to do what's asked of her and really just wants a task. If I forget to ask her to lie down after a walk or meal, she stands near me at the ready- waiting for the next command!
Adoption:
The ideal adopter would be an experienced dog owner, have a good sized fenced yard, be able to devote at least an hour of solid attention each day, provide love and affection, consistent discipline and further training as needed, plenty of exercise and a poultry-free diet (she has poultry allergies). Since she was stray, her prey drive is on the high side. I strongly recommend a household without other animals. Re-homing fee to adopt this dog is negotiable depending on your income.
Again, an experienced, secure, alpha owner is essential for this dog's continued well being. If that sounds like you, please consider adopting this awesome dog! She is so full of love and needs an active pack to join for the long haul. She will pay you in love and kisses.
