new virus warning!

Post by Rev. Jordan T. Maxwell »

hey all. our office IT guy sent this out, so i figure it's legit enough to spread the word. i'm usually very skeptical of these, but he's done his research and included a link to the Snopes article...so just be careful.

message begins:
READ IMMEDIATELY

VERY IMPORTANT!

Anyone using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on.
This information arrived this morning, Direct from both
Microsoft and Norton Please send it to everybody you know
who has Access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently
harmless e-mail titled "Here you have" or "Just for You". If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your
life is no longer beautiful...'
Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your Name, e-mail and password.
This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday
afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the
anti virus software's are not capable of destroying it. The
virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'.

PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO
ALL YOUR FRIENDS and ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY!

THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES:

The subject lines should be a dead giveaway, particularly "here you have" -- here you have WHAT? Broken English is always my first clue that something is amiss with any email I receive. I know it won't always be -- spammers and virus makers will someday get wise and start employing people who speak English fluently -- but it's a good early warning that there's something wrong.

Your office IT guy sent it out cause your office is full of dumb motherfuckers who would probably be using their CD tray as a cupholder if they weren't told not to.

edit: this applies for any office industry outside the gaming industry really, as far as IT is concerned

Try here:

Snopes isn't at fault. Their article concerns a real virus from 2006. This is just the same garbage making the rounds again and cluttering up people's inboxes.

oh, it's not a problem with the link. the internet filter at work just blocks everything except, it seems, the improv forums and Wikipedia. :p

thanks for the info! i'll pass it along.
