My car was totaled

My car was totaled last Thursday while my mechanic was taking it out for a test run after repairing my starter. My car was ten years old and very reliable. I'm still waiting for the insurance agent dust to settle and clue me in on exactly which agency is paying, but the bottom line is that I will not have a car, I will be getting very little money for my car and I do not have enough money in my accounts to help me get a new car.

So, if anyone has a lead on a reliable and inexpensive used car, then please get in touch with me in a PM or my direct e-mail. Or if you've had a very good experience in purchasing a used car from a certain dealer, then please let me know.

Thanks so much for any leads.

That totally sucks. I'm so sorry. I'll keep my eyes open for a car for you.

A friend and I both had good experiences buying used cars (Volvos) from R&D Motors. They have two locations, one of which is on Red River and the other of which is on 53rd. (For a dissenting view of R&D Motors, see this seemingly unhinged website: http://www.r-dmotorsaustin.com/)

Also, if you actually want to buy a Volvo (and why wouldn't you?), my trustworthy mechanic often sells cars he's fixed up. If you're interested, let me know and I'll dig up his number. His name is Greg Alexander; he may be listed.

Sorry about your car. That truly bites.

i bought my car from the auto depot (voted most reliable auto seller or something like that in the chronicle). my friend just bought a car from them two days ago. they have a good warranty deal on their used cars and mostly specialize in hondas and toyotas.

Chris, I'm glad to hear that you are okay.

Since you maybe looking at Honda/Toyota cars, I wanted to tell you that I love my Honda Civic EX 2000. I've had to fix the AC 2 years in a row (ch-ching), but I think I used a bad auto shop the first year as this year it's fine. Besides that, it gets great gas milage and the only upkeep is some low maintance stuff (oil change, fluid input, belts & wipers, etc). After having owned several hand-me-down, worn out & broken cars from my dad, I love that I don't have to worry about whether or not this one will work.
