AIC Same Year's Eve Twenty-Ten!!

Post by sara farr »

Hey AIC! It's 2 Days until Thursday, December 30th -- also known as...

The AIC "Same Year's Eve" Show/Party!

is happening @ the Hideout Theatre.

For those who don't know, "Same Year's Eve" is the BEST show of the year. BEST because the AIC is all in one spot -- on stage at almost the same time -- even when we try to break into groups. It's a bit of a mess artistically speaking, BUT! as a community event, it is awesome, which trumps the quality of the performance. It also ends up being a fun reunion with all the Austin ex-pats coming home to join in the show.

Traditionally, it's been a huge cast show -- essentially a 2 hour improv jam-show broken into three (35-40 min) acts:
Act 1 = shortform games (8:00-8:35pm)
Act 2 = montage scenes (8:40-9:15pm)
Act 3 = musical (9:20-10:00pm)

If you want to play in the show, you show up at 7pm to put your name in the "hat". Then everyone is mixed together in the hat, and based on the LUCK OF THE DRAW, divided into the three sets. The groups then break out to practice and warm up.

In years past, we've always had mixing and mingling afterwards, with potluck treats, music & dancing, (some years have included a a game of "Sardines" and an attempted "sleepover"), and there's always a final count-down-to-Midnight to ring in the "Same Year" (toasts optional).

I remember one year Val and I went out and purchase sparkling wine & apple juice for the toasts, as well as a keg of beer to have at the party (compliments of the AIC). We also spent some time to clean and decorate the Hideout's greenroom and upstairs stage (to make room for dancing and/or sleepover).

***
Hooray! We've had some people volunteer. I would hope that we could get 10 volunteers. We now have 12!!

Here are the adorable Volunteers we've got so far:

TECH -- Michael McGill & Jessica Arjet
BOX -- Tim Traini
SETUP -- Meghan W, Sara Farr, Todd Hart, RubyRocket
DANCE MUSIC & iPod DJs -- Curtis, Beeler & Meghan W
CLEAN UP -- eliz.rubywillmann, Sara Farr, Jordan Maxwell, mcslionhair

IF YOU HAVE VOLUNTEERED, please send me your name, t-shirt size, & email so I can send you the info you will need for that night. :-) Sara

I'll be there with bells on.

There will be a fee if you want me to wear more than just bells.

Yarg -- those of us doing the Dasariski plays will have our final tech that night.  Hopefully the rehearsal won't run long?

The toasts are never optional.

This is one of my favorite nights of the year. The shows can be fun, but the party upstairs is what it's all about.
