I am currently casting for the University Filmmaker's Alliance's semester project called "Do as I Say." This will be a short about a kidnapping of a young (11-14) girl by a somewhat deranged and emotionally immature individual, where the kidnapper's intentions change from uncomfortable and malicious to a day trip to "Maritime Fun Land", as his poorly thought out and incompetent plans fall apart.
It's difficult material, made more challenging by the humor in the situation.

We need:

Lead male (Steve)- 25-45
More pathetic than sympathetic. His initial motivations are horrific, but his timidity ultimately prevent him from acting on his intentions

Lead female (Lisa)- able to play 11-14
Her confidence, mixed with naiveté are the buffer that ultimately undo Steve.

Saleswoman

Convenience Store Clerk

Anyone interested should email me at say.i.as.do AT gmail DOT com no later than SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2010.

Thanks

My roommate wrote and posted this from my account.
To elaborate a bit more on what he wrote, basically this is a dark comedy/character piece, pitting a nervous and incompetent man against a strong-willed child, in a rather confined setting.

The key to what makes the piece compelling, in my opinion, is the power dynamic between the two characters, and the challenge of trying to explore audience expectations about the nature of the (somewhat) antagonistic character, potentially trying to evoke some sort of sympathy for him, and then, while again I stress nothing bad actually happens, making the audience realize that they've become sympathetic to someone who may not be deserving of that forgiveness.

It's difficult, yes, but an interesting challenge, if anyone is interested.
