Abstract Rainbow and TNM at the Travis Heights Art Trail

Abstract Rainbow is participating in the Travis Heights Art Trail (THAT) this year and I've been busting my hump to make a bunch of puppets to sell. Come on out, stop by and say hello!

Also, various improvisers from The New Movement will be doing a show at 2 pm on Saturday December 4. I'd really love it if we got some folks out to see the show. The Trail hasn't been very helpful in promoting the show too much, so it'd be nice to have an audience. The show will be various folks from TNM including

I want to also share more in depth about the THAT, the genesis of Abstract Rainbow, the role of the AIC (esp. Sara Farr) in that and my involvement in the THAT this year, but that will come in another post, most likely tomorrow.

A little background information.

The Travis Heights Art Trail is part home tour and part art show. The website has a list of all the homes and a map. You can drive/walk around and see different people's houses and studios and see their art. It's a really sweet way to see some awesome houses in the area.

I moved in with my brother in Travis Heights over three years ago and ever since the first year had an interest in participating in the THAT, but there's a decent entry fee and my arts up until recently were performance based and thus didn't have any chance of recouping the cost.

Sometime in 2009 I met Sara Farr at one of the early Merlin-Works mixers and she was in part looking for improvisers interested in puppetry. As a kid I had collected and played with puppets and put on puppet shows for my family. Before getting into improv, I was doing film comedy sketches with friends and had pulled all my puppets out of my parent's attic to do some sketches with them (but that never got finished). Through Sara and the Puppet Improv Project I rediscovered my love for puppets. One day I was playing with a stuffed bear at my fiance Erica's house trying to make her laugh and she encouraged me to get back into puppetry and to try out puppet making since Sara had been doing that and I expressed an interest. She bought me a bunch of supplies for Christmas and she took one of Sara's workshop. My family bought some patterns and some other supplies and off we went.

Earlier this year we decided to try and sign up for the THAT so that we could force ourselves to make a bunch of puppets and have something to sell that might also make back the entrance fee.

I also wanted to do an improv show and so we'll be doing a relatively short (20-30 min) free show at 2 pm on Saturday. My brother's girlfriend is also selling lots of embroidered towels and onesies and other things.

I've still got a bit of work to do to get these puppets done and ready for sale, so I better stop narrating this story and get back on it. Hope to see you guys next weekend.

Reminder, this is this Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. Improv show on Saturday at 2 pm.
