Yes, it is true! In the future, IMPROV and THEATRE will become one, twining together into a tight, laser-thin rope of sweet, dark, nowness. No one will know what is made up and what was written and we won't care. But it is ALSO true that Jeff Britt and I have started a theatre company! That’s theatre with an R-E.
Last year we did Mamet’s American Buffalo at the Cathedral of Junk. This year, we’re doing a whole season of the stuff, starting with David Hare’s first play, SLAG. Hare wrote this play so fast it’s practically improv. But it’s not, see? It was written. In the back of a van. In 1970. And I’m directing it.
Remaining Performances of SLAG:
Friday the 16th at 9pm
Saturday the 17th at 2pm
and Sunday the 18th at 2pm
At City Theatre (3823 Airport Blvd, Suite D)
as a part of their Summer Acts Festival.
So, obviously, I’d like you — every one of you — to join us and see the play. But this post is also a CALL to ARMS. For the future! We've got at least eight plays in the works over the next two years and WE NEED: sound designers, directors, stage managers, set designers, costume designers, tech folk of all race, gender, pitch and hue, architects, graphical gurus, writers, actors, musicians, producers, marketing majors, not-for-profit-grant-writing-geniuses . . . yes, we need YOU!
Plays on the immediate horizon are Sam Shepard’s TRUE WEST (directed by Asaf Ronen), David Mamet’s DUCK VARIATIONS (featuring Confidence Men), Don Delillo’s VALPARAISO, and two new pieces by local Wazzerstein prize-winning writer, Linda Ramsey.
Please, if any of these projects inspire you, let me know!
Sincerely,
Michael Ferstenfeld
