All Tomorrow's Parties

Hey folks -

We are beginning to narrow our focus for the after-parties for this year's Out Of Bounds. I wanted to let you know about some changes we're making, and ask for any suggestions or recommendations you may have for the festival. We appreciate the support of people attending the official parties and not starting competing parties, so we'd like to make them as accessible and agreed upon as possible.

We would still like to have house parties if possible, but we are expecting a large increase in people attending. If you have a home or know of a space we could have a party please let us know. Also, if you know of a space that could be rented cheaply for a private all-night party, we'd love to know about that as well.

Bar Parties - If you know of any bars that would like to host us, please let me know. Our requirements are that is centrally located, and will give drink specials for the OOB badge holders. You may have a favorite bar, but if it is packed wall-to-wall on a Thurs.-Sat. night, this will not be the best venue for the performers to meet up.

Day Events- We would like to add daytime events led by Austinites for the out-of-towners. We will add the information and a meet-up time in their welcome brochure, and should they wake up without a hang-over, they may need something to do. We are looking for people to host these "meet-ups." The activities can be simple - a 4 o'clock Meet-Up at the Cathedral of Junk, adventurous - a city bike ride Meet-Up early on Saturday, or Ridiculous - a celebration of pancakes at Magnolia hosted by a specific troupe.

These have the potential to be unforgettable experiences for our out-of-town guests. So please pm me your ideas for activities and which individuals or troupes would host them by July 20th. You can also send me an email at patnatdan@gmail.com

Thanks!!

I love the idea of a city bike tour on Saturday morning and I'd be happy to lead it... but could we get some kind of a hook up with a bicycle rental place for the out of towners? I think both Mellow Johnny's and Bicycle Sport Shop downtown rent bikes.

Yes, let's both investigate prices. But try to swing a freebie or discounted rate if we make them a sponsor.

Cool. Who's in charge of scooping sponsors? I have a couple of connections at each shop. but no OOB promo materials.

I'll check. What I do is very low-presentation. I direct them toward the website.

Last year, Lance Armstrong's club Six sponsored one of our parties, perhaps Mellow Johnny's could do the same.

I *loved* that party, by the way. It worked so well because it was an off-night for the bar, so it was pretty empty and we had the run of the place. If we can do that again. let's.

I'd be happy to do some kind of coffee shop gathering, or breakfast meetup... as long as I'm not buying for everyone... ;)

Or maybe an excursion to Barton Springs if the weather is still warm.

I could head up a Barton Springs event. I'm in favor of such a thing. What would you need from me?

Also, I'm very much in favor of Taco Shack breakfast tacos and would gladly volunteer heading up a meetup at Taco Shack. Saturdays they serve 7am-1pm

I just realized I said exactly what Aden said, but in reverse. I will support Aden's events!!!!

These are great, keep them coming!

And to be clear, you will not have to purchase anything for the guests or pay for anything!

This is the information I'm looking for:

1. What activity would you like to host?
2. Where?
3. What time or day of the week would be preferable?

I've just polled my roommates, and they are cool with hosting a house party here. We are about 2 blocks from SVT, with two large living rooms (which will have even less furniture in them by OoB, because one roommate it moving out with his dining table etc.) a big backyard, and some front yard seating as well. We've had big parties there before with no problem.

One of my favorite things about oob is how even though it grows every year it seems to maintain the intimacy and togetherness of a small festival. I love how the official parties give improvisers from across the lands a chance to connect and discuss things pertaining to "the craft" and the non-"the craft" things (such as the movie, The Craft).

Parties that have sucked in the past are ones at bars that are super loud and offer no ability to socialize. House parties, hotel banquet DJ'ed dance parties, and golf always seem to bring folks together. Both rent-a-room karaoke things went well, but I realize that we probably can't get a whole place like that again. I CAN'T WAIT FOR OOB!

I'm of the same mind. House parties get harder as the festival grows bc of the noise ordinance in many neighborhoods. If Val is willing to host a part, that would be AWESOME! I wish I was closer into town. Finding a rental space with AC and booze and seating would be great!! Wish there was a mellow bar like that to rent out.

Also, CAN'T WAIT for OOB!!

I don't know if ColdTowne has offered their space again this year, but I think that's a great place for parties.

Not sure when the mini-golf is planned, but on Sunday the Paramount will be doing its Big Lebowski matinee scavenger hunt downtown...could be fun and a way of experiencing the city.

barring that...if you thought anyone might be interested, i could probably do a walking tour of downtown or something.

also.... ditto what has been said here before - centrally located house parties are great but get harder and harder. Finding the right reservable venue space is challenging. The Tap Room/Six are good and in a similar vein, Paradise Cafe's second floor (6th & Trinity) could work. It has the nice new balcony, too. And their drinks are reasonably priced.

Parties?

Hey, I thought I remembered seeing a list of parties for this year's festival, but I can't find them anywhere. Can someone lead me to that list?

Thanks!
