Post by jillybee72 »

I am going to:
eat sno cones
go to Barton Springs
listen to crickets
teach workshops
take Spanish classes
do shows
have naps
work on my script
say y'all
wear flip flops
go country dancin'

I wonder what else!

Jill, I have a couple of scripts that I am working on too. I would totally meet with you at one of the many awesome coffee shops in town so we could sit and write!

I like Epoch. Though the Green Muse is cool too.

eat breakfast tacos! duh!! I prefer pech (potato egg cheese tacos) from "Taco Shack" but lots of ppl like the whipped potatoes you get in the gourmet tacos at "Taco Deli"

Also, I haven't done this but Austin is full of ppl who have -- start your own band, or join an existing one. Then play music at one of the many venues in town.

You should sweat and do meth. Austin summer traditions!

Also, the bats should be out in force this time of year. I haven't gone to see them in 4 years.

REALLY??? I thought bats were over! WHOO HOO!

OMG I can't believe I didn't list breakfast tacos. Yes, my god, yes.

I don't want to be in a band. That sounds noisy.

The peak of bat activity is August.

Surely there will be a BBQ pilgrimmage at some point?

The mommies and the babies start flying out in August. That is the ideal time to see them -- hoards and hoards of the tiny little cuties. But end of July should be impressive, too. I recommend the river cruise, if you have the $.

More bat info. Also, bats are AWESOME! Austin Community College just adopted them as their mascot!!

You're not supposed to touch bats! They could have rabies!

Somebody's been reading the e-mails that come from UT once every few months. "DANGER: Bat in a box somewhere on campus! Don't touch it - rabies!"

One of the stranger sights I've ever seen in Austin happened during a thunderstorm at night in August. The bats had come out earlier that night and the strong winds and large amounts of rain made it impossible for the bats to keep flying. Many were forced to ground themselves on the upstairs courtyard outside the Dobie dormitory. As soon as they hit the ground, they would start crawling for shelter. A few friends and I braved the weather in order to throw together a lean-to of sorts that the bats could hide under. They packed into the thing and were all gone by morning, so hopefully it helped.

Jill, if you like to swim, you can take advantage of one of the many free pools.
