Casting the Hideout's Fall Theatresports Tournament, June 12
We're bringing Theatresports back to the Hideout this fall and we want YOU to be part of the show.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, June 12, 3-5pm.
Theatresports is the original improvisational theater format invented by Keith Johnstone in the dawn of improv time to skirt the censors in merry old England and spread the virus of improv. Theatresports is currently played in over 20 countries around the world and over 30 cities in North America. The Hideout began its life in 1999 as Austin Theatresports.
Saturday nights at 8pm in September and October, the Austin Theatresports Tournament is taking over the primetime slot the Hideout. Teams will go head to head, challenging each other to scenes and games and anything else that can happen on a stage. Each scene is scored by judges and at the end of the evening, a winner is declared.
To get as many people having as much fun as possible with this run, each show will be broken into two parts -- a short expo round giving newer improvisers a chance to try out this exciting format in front of sold-out audiences, and a full-length, roiling and rollicking Theatresports match between two teams of stone cold bad-ass Austin improvisers. The second half of each show will be part of a bracketed tournament, culminating in the finals at the end of October. This run of Theatresports is being produced by Kareem Badr and Andy Crouch.
Again, we're holding auditions on Saturday, June 12, 3-5pm in the Hideout upstairs theater. PM Andy or email acrouch thegat gmail dthegot com to let us know you're coming.
There will be some rehearsal responsibility in July and August, but it should be pretty manageable.

When we say Tournament, we mean it:

Who will take this baby home (and then return it for the next champion like they do with the Stanley Cup) ?
Also, please note the hilarity of a trophy being topped with an abstract human figure holding a trophy.

You work your life away and what do they give?
You're only killing yourself to live

Because I am dumb: do we form teams, and then come in and audition as teams, or do we audition individually?

What concerns me is that snark functions as a device to punish human spontaneity, eccentricity, non-conformity and simple error. Everyone is being snarked into line.
