LAFF: Ladies Are Funny Festival celebrates women in comedy by showcasing top female performers from Texas and beyond. In this year's fourth annual festival, LAFF will highlight improvisation, sketch comedy, stand up comedy, one woman shows, and more. The festival will be held on May 5-8 at the Salvage Vanguard Theater. LAFF is produced by Girls Girls Girls Improvised Musicals, Austin's longest running all-female improv troupe.
This year, LAFF will feature the triumphant return of headliner Sara Benincasa of New York, NY. Currently, Sara co-hosts "Get in Bed," a hilarious sex-chat show on Cosmo radio (Sirius 111/XM 162) every weeknight from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m ET. Benincasa will be delighting audiences with her show "Jersey Whore: A Classy Evening with Sara Benincasa" at 10pm on Friday May 7th.
Some additional highlights of LAFF will be improv comedy performances by the Real Housewives of Philadelphia, Lapcox of New York, and Girls Girls Girls Improvised Musicals; one woman shows like "The Good, the Bad and the Monkey" from Chicago and "A Wiener with a View" from New York," and sketch comedy by Skinny Bitch Jesus Meeting of New York. The Thursday night performance will be a night featuring stand up by such performers as Selena Coppock of New York, Mocha Jean Herrup of Austin, and the musical variety stylings of Delilah Dix of New York and many more fabulous acts. For a detailed schedule, please see http://laff.austinimprov.com/schedule.html.
In order to get everyone pumped for LAFF, an awesome fundraising event will happen in April called L.U.S.T (the Ladies Underhanded Skillet Toss competition.) Comedy lovers and kitchen implement athletes will gather at Mueller's Lake Park Meadow on April 18th at 2:00pm to compete to see who can throw a heavy cast-iron skillet the furthest. Both ladies and gentlemen are invited to toss the skillet. There will also be a bake sale and hilarious color commentary from members of the Austin Improv Collective. Winners will receive ribbons. This may be your only chance this year to throw cookware for a good cause!
