It's really remarkable how the kid had the time to remove his shirt and wind up for the punch without the kid behind him even so much as flinching

Yeah, perhaps the shirt is a diversion that allows him to get his arm up and swinging. I think the other kid sits still to try to look innocent. Also, did you notice... the last time the guy is messed with, it is from the kid sitting right next to him.
