Dream Show Location

If you could do a show anywhere, where would it be?

Mine would be in rural Iceland in a big, warm barn next to a huge fire with Bjork and Sigur Ros in among an audience of 300.

My first thought was the Temple of Jupiter in Baalbek. Would probably need a half-decent sound system though.

I know it sounds stupid, but the moon would be pretty awesome. Everyone on intercoms. I would settle for a space station though. Improv would be a great way to pass the time in Zero G.

Since Jon stole mine, and saying Mars might be derivative, I'll have to go with The Globe in London. It seems made for improv in some ways.

I kinda like your previous 'sky theater' idea; http://forum.austinimprov.com/viewtopic.php?t=4053

The building is done now - they took the crane down this week. Ready for audiences :)

Wow, hard to beat Jeremy's (except I'd replace Bjork and Sigur Ros with more fire), but I think mine would have to be: in my living room / house generally.

This, you can do here in Austin, at Richard Garriot's place, The Curtain.

I know some sort of improvised Shakespeare went down a while ago there. I think Les McGehee was at helm of that project? From what I understand, it's not terribly easy to get booked at The Curtain. I wouldn't be surprised if other improvisers have tried (or even successfully pulled it off).

All that being said, there's bound to be an inherent difference in feeling between a scaled Globe replica in Austin and the larger equivalent in its native land.

We did some of the Much Ado run at the Curtain back in '08.  Good times.

My choice is the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, Italy (which I toured in 2006). It was the first permanent covered theatre of the Renaissance, designed by Palladio and completed in 1585. It has been preserved entirely in its original appearance, conceived specifically for the opening performance of Sophocles' "Oedipus the King". What you see behind the proscenium is NOT a painted backdrop. There are a total of five steeply ramped "streets" lined with cleverly proportioned buildings to create the illusion of distance.

The motto engraved at the top of the proscenium, taken from a passage of Virgil's "Aenead", alludes to the difficulty of reaching the light of truth and knowledge by way of darkness. An apt metaphor for improv, IMHO.

Good lord, Jeff - the Kaaba? Kill the infidel!

I vote Red Rocks - the natural acoustics are freaking amazing and you can climb all over the formations (including a couple of towers for when you want to feel godlike).
