I know I'm not exactly breaking news here, but I was giving Pink Flag a fresh listen this morning and ... holy moly, it's unbelievable how well this album still holds up. Not a trace of dust on the thing, not one bad or even middling song. Just awesome.

Almost exclusively Merriweather Post Pavilion (Animal Collective) the past few weeks and any live/session versions of AC songs...

Today I listened to a greatest hits of Nina Simone, though. <3

EDIT: http://www.nyctaper.com/?p=513 AC show from New York. Including "Comfy in Nautica" in the encore.

And some recent hard media acquisitions:

And this lovely gift (spectra: guitar in the 21st century) sent to me yesterday by Mike McGill, who did the photography for the release. Mike, I can't find a better image than this on the web. Feel free to upload something bigger than this image I ganked form the quiet design website.

And oh yeah, maybe I'm old or something, but it took me a long time to get with the new Animal Collective. But I have been listening to it pretty much non-stop. That and Skeletal Lamping by of Montreal.

Exactly right now, Future of the Left. Former McClusky bandies, whom I saw and adored at Emo's during SXSW... I think it was just last year. Punky, loud, awesome fun.

Also:
Los Campesinos
Psychic Ills
Beirut (will be downloading the new one from eMusic tonight)
Decemberists
Modest Mouse
Cocteau Twins
Anonymous 4
Glenn Gould playing Bach

Listening to a lot of new junk (thanks to swapping some hard drives with some other music nerds this weekend), but the big music news is the leaking of a full 11 minute version of "Revolution 1" from the Beatles album.

It had been detailed in recording session books and heard in part in the background of another bootleg (a dictation machine running in the control room caught the ambient sound of the song's playback except had Yoko's ramblings overtop, drowning most of it out.) But the full version straight from the tapes had never surfaced before. The album version was cut from the first 4 or so minutes of this and then faded out, while this one goes on with extra background vocals, instruments, etc. Some of the bits from this extra section were cut up and used in 'Revolution 9' (so that's why they share their name!)

Pretty nerdy, i know, but it's extremely infrequent these days that something unreleased of this magnitude surfaces from the Beatles, especially considering how much has already find its way out of the vaults (ie. there's already a 10-CD compilation of mixes, versions, takes, rehearsals, and demos just for White Album-era stuff floating around).

You can hear it here on this youtube clip, and you can find mp3s or flacs of it if you google around a bit.

not real cover, obviously... but this is a really good album... it only took half a song for me to get into the kind of drastic change (that isn't so drastic when you get down to it)
