Seriously, that last half-hour was some of the most fun improv I've seen in a long while. I had a great time, and hope there are more of these.

agreed. I almost think there should be a jam / mixer that is solely based on people getting together into groups like that and rotating five minute slots. It was very lively & spontaneous.

The Playground Theater (improv co-op) in Chicago does something like this. You show up, pay $5, and they assign you randomly to a team and a coach. You warm up and then do a show together.
It was nice to meet/see everyone. Thanks, Shana and SVT!

The Playground Theater in Chicago has been the home of Open Court for over 4 years now. It's produced by house team International Stinger, who has successfully brought Open Court to other festivals, most recently the 2008 Toronto festival.
It's essentially as Frank described, with 2 or 3 instant teams being created by lot draw, and assigned a guest coach. The shows are always fun, high energy, and there are random prize give-aways at the end. It has become a watershed for new and experienced players who want to get some stage time on a Chicago Thursday night.
Come by and join us if you find yourself in the windy city anytime soon.

The rest of the country has no taste. Forget this notion of red and blue states. That's not the country we live in. We live in a land mass divided into two groups -- those who watch "According to Jim" and those who watch "Arrested Development." That's infinitely more frightening than anything politicians could dream up.

I like this improv mixer idea. I'd like to come play. I wish this thread had the correct dates in the title. I I I I I I I. Okay, its not all about me, but there IS an I in IMPROV.

Looks like someone fixed it.
Also, even if you're not looking form a brand new ensemble to do stuff with, Gnap! is going to be doing a number of new runs and late night lab shows. Coming out to the mixer would be a good way for us to get to know you, especially if you've never taken any of Shana's classes but you're interested in performing even every once and a while at SVT.
