The show is all about mysteries, clearly.

Now I need to see another one of those, with Hugo's "dude".

I don't like the ending of this season. There, I've said it.

So, Locke was in the coffin. You mean the guy whose spine miraculously healed after a plane crash? The guy who was shot and recovered easily when ghosty Walt told him to get up?

Like there's any doubt that he'll come back from the dead? Like so many other people who are dead are not dead on the island. Christian, Claire, Echo, etc...

I'm starting to not care. I'm starting to think that thye've let this show go on too long. I'm starting to think that I'll wait until the next two seasons come out on dvd and watch them.

Tell me about the godammed four-toed statue or I'm outta here...

Unless I'm mistaken, that's supposedly one of the things they're saving for near the end of the final season. Along with the smoke monster. Lame.

The Apologist responds: How can they have let the show go on too long? The 4th season was overall the most interesting season since the first one, at least according to me and a whole lot of other people. I agree that the finale left a little to be desired, but I also place some blame on the writers strike. I got the sense that they were building a very interesting momentum up until the strike, and then the show was kind of lacking some grace when it came back, like it showed that they were working at a faster pace than they were accustomed to.

However, I'd like to know about the four-toed statue as well (Jesus, what a huge offer to just sit on for over two seasons!). And I think I'll be going into season 5 a little more jaded than I was before, partly for the reasons you mentioned. I don't think Locke's being in the coffin was a very strong final image of the season. That would be like if The Empire Strikes Back ended with an image of Solo in that carbonite box. My last thought would have been, "Yep, he's gonna be okay." Instead, Empire ends with Luke and friends looking into the distance with hope and dread, and I think, "Wow, they've got a huge and awesome journey ahead of them."

While I'm not unhappy with the state of the show right now, I'd like to yell out a big "Who gives a shit about the statue!".

I'm pretty sure it's just something that hints at how long the island has held it's powers. Ancient civilizations probably worshiped some god they thought lived there... I don't give fuck

[jeff's note to self: be careful about mentioning statues and apostrophes. it is unclear who cares about them, and that makes people mad.]

I'm kidding! I have that tendency, too. It's just nice to find someone who gets as aggravated as I do about it. I don't express it as much. Hell, I screwed up an is/are agreement yesterday and Justin Davis used his editing skills to quash me.

It's not the statue so much as the offer...like the multitude of things left in the air throughout the series. I can handle not getting to it immediately, but waiting until the end of the show's run? C'mon.

No, no, no...They should be at the end of season three by now. Dragging ass intentionally, writers strike or not. I mean, they had a freakin' Alfred Hitchcock episode. Remember that? Worthless. This isn't the X-Files, folks.

I just don't want to wait for the freakin' spring and their mad scheduling. I may actually like the last two seasons watching episodes back to back on dvd.

The show is not about time travel and everything will be explained by real science by the end. Okay, I will not be holding my breath on that one, Charlie.

More war!

Maybe they can get Micheal Palin to host an episode.

the reason the show works so well is that it can have those offers lingering out there and use them to weave the ongoing mysteries. i don't WANT answers until the end. yes, some of them along the way, but save the big stuff for the finale. if you just give everyone all the answers and wrap it up nice and tidy and move on to something else, you wind up with the lackluster final seasons of the X-Files where NO ONE GIVES A CRAP ANYMORE! the reason the show works and is so brilliant is that it's not just about the individual episodes, it's also about the piece as a whole. the episodes are, on the whole, about exploring the psychology and relationships of the characters. it's only by interlocking them together and looking at everything that's going on around that that you get the mythology. so, yes, the seeds for the monster and time travel and dead people walking and all of that have been planted throughout the show from the very beginning, but you still have room to deviate and tell stories like the Nikki and Paolo episode (come on, Chris...almost EVERY episode is a Hitchcock episode. ;) ). with the truncated final few seasons, things are going to be a lot tighter, but i've always liked that we can take those little side journeys for an episode.

and yes, i loved the season finale. in case that wasn't clear. 8)
