FYI, I wore these sneakers to the Comedy Sportz annual festival in Los Angeles, which happened the exact weekend before Katrina. My flight was routed to my parents' house in Shreveport, and I didnt' return to NOLA for a month.HerrHerr wrote:

These shoes were with me the whole time, and we made the move to Austin shortly thereafter. I've been looking back ever since. Tonight.
Tonight.
I look back, yes, but there's a certain amount of closure.
I will always love New Orleans. Always.
But the city moves on, my dreams move on, Coldtowne will move on, I will move on! God bless us every one.

In that same fire I burned my lucky Saints shirt. Aside from having worn it during every game for at least the past 5 seasons, it was one of the few items of clothing I had when evacuating my house in New Orleans. Like many, I thought I only needed a day or two of clothing.
When I went to Houston to wait it out, I wore this shirt often and was recognized as a Katrina evacuee and was given discounts, put at the head of lines in grocery stores and things like that and overall treated exceptionally well by the people of Houston. There were gestures I will never forget.
I echo the sentiments of Arthur.
