Are auditions still open? Accepting Tech positions? I've always enjoyed the bard, but then I found myself today really enjoying Les's shakesprov show and I loved the Shakespere impro at OoB. One of my favourite plays is Rosencratz & Guildenstern are Dead (which Kristen can attest to) - so why fight it?

If rehearsals are closed - screw it - I'm forming a rival troupe. Christopher Marlowe Impro!! Who's with me?

Melinda Hall Bio
Melinda Hall (SAG, AEA) is an actor, writer and director that has
lived and worked in NYC and Los Angeles. Previously, Ms. Hall was the
Shakespeare teacher at the Stella Adler Academy of Acting in Hollywood
and the Shakespeare Moderator at Theatre West and Wordspace in Los
Angeles. Ms. Hall has directed Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream,
Measure for Measure, Romeo & Juliet and Phaedra among other classical
and contemporary plays. Currently, she serves as the Director of
Outreach for the New Globe Project in NYC.

I went to yesterday's session, and it was lots of fun.

The two-hour session gave us enough time to get through acts one and two of Much Ado. Melinda ran the session, assigning and re-assigning parts on a scene by scene basis to those of us who wanted to act (I think I wound up reading Beatrice, Benedick, and Margaret at various points).

After each scene we'd stop and discuss what was going on in the scene. We had a pile of reference books (and, between us, about a dozen editions of the play) for sussing out obscure vocabulary/idioms/pronunciations. Oh, and the director of their upcoming Much Ado production was there -- not acting, but participating in the discussions.

*shrug* It may be a useful thing for the Shakespeare-improv types to attend....

Thanks for the info, Peter. I'll try to check this out next week.

And sorry for the disorganization of late. I lost my Julie and have been regrouping to get the cast set and November rehearsals scheduled. We'll have one more open rehearsal next Sunday 3-5pm where everyone is invited to come get some Shakespeare improv flava. After that it's the official cast trying to get their offal together for the run in January/February.

So come one, come all to the Shakespeare workshop on Sunday, 3-5pm, November 10.

I'll be sending out emails about cast and crew stuff this week.

I'm not joking in the slightest when I say that 85% of my Shakespeare scene material is actual Marlowe based (and another 10% is Jonson).

No one ever seems to notice, the illiterate scum.*

I think my love of Marlowe just about rises to the realm of fetishism.

*One time I was called out by a professor in the audience after the show in passing as he left and shook my hand ("Nice John Webster reference. I teach him at UT"), for calling someone Dutchess Malfi in my Shakespearean scene. That was one of the best improv experiences of my life. I love the old highbrow one-person-gets-em jokes.

re Marlowe -- the ASF is doing a staged reading of Tamburlaine....

From their web site:

The reading will be held November 28 at the fabulous Mercury Hall, off of South 1st Street and Cardinal. Doors will open at 7:00pm, and the performance will begin at 7:30.

Entry to the event is FREE. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

ps Today's 'Shakespeare Aloud' was okay, but not as fun as the first one. *shrug*
