Oh, Erika...we already DO have the best collective community asses. Except for maybe the Any Baby Can people...but we've almost got them, too!

Okay I'm making it official folks.

I hereby declare

The Austin Improv Co-op

Official Bar/Restaurant

of Tuesday Night is
McCormick & Schmick's

401 Congress Avenue
Austin, Texas 78701
http://www.mccormickandschmicks.com/ind ... d=96&id=68

Of Thursday - Saturday Night
Opal Divine's Free House

700 West 6th St • Austin, TX 78701
http://www.opaldivines.com

So please go to these places. Let's try it for a while. If everybody goes there, then we will know where everyone is and there won't be boring debate and no one will feel left out. And we can have a kick ass party every night. Once we become regulars, things will only get sweeter.

If these guys can open a Co-op Bar, we can sure as hell open a Co-op theatre.

It's always happy hour at community-owned bar

You've heard of the bar where "everybody knows your name," but how about one where "everybody owns the place?"

Some Austin residents are working to create the state's first co-op beer pub in the European sense of the word. The Black Star Pub is the brainchild of Steven Wyarak, who had lived in Belgium and liked the quality of beer and pub atmosphere there.

"We're starting up a community-owned bar here in town. I wanted to do something cooperative, something that would involve the community [and see] what options are out there, what can we do?" Wyarak said.

The idea was also inspired by co-op pubs in Ireland, and Wyarak said Austin is the perfect place for its Texas debut.

"If there is a place for this to happen, Austin is where it should happen," he said.

Maybe this will be our new regular place when it opens. Co-op Love.

Looking through old posts and found this. Though Opals was king for a while, it seems the Dog -n- Duck is the current destination for Hideout folks.

What is the nearby bar other improv theater people frequent?

Hideout... Dog-n-Duck?
Gnap... Red House (sometimes Contigo?)
Coldtowne... ??
Institution... Opals South?
TNM... ??

Seems like it'd be a good idea to get these bars to sponsor the theater that frequents it.

ColdTowne's default is The Grand, since it's a block away. I'd say Barfly's and Nomad are tied for second place, but that's based on anecdotal evidence.

It used to be Opal's? I find that change a little regrettable. The Dog and Duck has very good atmosphere, but no liquor.

The silver knives are flashing in the tired old cafe. A ghost climbs on the table in a bridal negligee. She says "My body is the life; my body is the way." I raise my arm against it all and I catch the bride's bouquet.

Institution also hits up Crow Bar. and i usually head to Crown and Anchor after Gnap shows. i avoid Opal's Sixth if at all possible these days. ;)

Indeed. I too miss it. It was lots of fun going to Opal's after maestros. We still went to D&D after classes, but shows was Opal's (I got through the whole scotch list that way).

We needed a place that was okay FOR MINORS (like kaci beeler) ;-) ... and walkable. We walked more back in those days. And that end of 6th street was way less Yuppified.

Midnight Society goes to Nomad all the damn time. But everyone else at CT seems to stumble over to The Grand.
