Let me clarify:
I didn't mean to say I perform at the Hideout for the money - what I mean to say is that we get to perform for free (some people have to rent space) and we get paid (not common).

So when people don't put effort into marketing their shows, I'm all like, ".......huh? I don't get it....."

Re: Marketing

I'm sure there's a fair number of people who come out just to see improv, with no idea of who the individual teams are, but I've seen a definite coralation between audience size and promotional efforts. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I heart the AIC, and I love that people put so much time into making this thing run. But at some point, wouldn't you want the greater public to appreciate your ensemble on its own?

i know two things:

1. valerie said one a.m. is her favorite troupe.

2. i want to see "there's a show coming up" more than anything. can they get a run at CTT?

Seems to me like Wafflefest needs to have applications and a selection committee that reviews those applications. The days of begging people to perform in it are clearly over. Friday and Saturday nights will be sold out just because of the free waffles (no offense to improv). Thursday might draw a crowd thanks to things like TNA which are training the good folks of Austin that good stuff happens on a night other thank Friday or Saturday. Having said that...I realize that it does us no good for this year. Can we add a late night slot on Friday and Saturday to accomodate more troupes and/or the All-Star Micetro?

Val - I just want to say that I don't think of One, Too as a side project. I am very proud of you for trying something new and unique to the Austin scene. That should be recognized for sure.

I am currently in the early stages of developing a two person troupe myself and I certainly hope that it doesn't get considered a "side project". It sounds so dirty and unwelcomed that way.

Perhaps all this points to us needing some sort of guidlines for being an AIC troupe (ie meeting some minimum standards for marketing, audience turnout, repeat business, etc.). In exchange, you earn stagetime, premium slots, priority in festivals and special events, and get teh AIC marketing machine working for you.

Tami's enthusiasm is a result of my hype in an earlier comment.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me that "There's a Show Coming Up?!?!" will be on the schedule in January / February, with multiple shows, and a new and interesting twist on improv.

Just to put a golden nugget on top of this whole stinkin poo-pile.

update: scissor and one a.m. are switching places. I apologize for this happening so late, but there was a tech booth scheduling conflict at the ColdTowne Theater.
