Level 3 is patterns and devices. If you audited the class, it would just look like the class is about tap outs & walk ons.
But the real beauty about this class is that it offers students an incentive to listen to their scene partners. (perhaps more important: listening to scenes they're not in) Between the first class and the eighth class - students make amazing breakthroughs by simply listening more. Getting out of their heads and supporting what's already on the table.
Patterns is listening essentially. This is the class that broke me as an improviser and then put me back together again. Challenging but so worth it.

Levels 2 -5 at the New Movement fit together as a comprehensive whole like the parts of a machine.
From the outside, many improvisers assume skipping LVL 2 or LVL 3 would set them at the right pace with their classmates.
But encouraging a student to begin construction on the top floors would not equip him/her for success. Not without the proper foundation first. Classes have less to do with status and more to do with focus.

Jesse, you are a man of passion and sensitivity, and I don't think anyone who knows what a big-hearted and good guy you are really needs an apology. Ya goof.Spots wrote:

I for one appreciate your bridge-building efforts. It's really up to each individual to pursue these relationships of course, which can be hard as we are all very busy people, but I'm glad that you have taken that lead.
semi-related note, and not to derail, but i read an article recently that a human can only really care about a maximum of 150 people at any given time. these are the people in your "monkeysphere", that you would be genuinely upset if something bad happened to them. google monkeysphere if you'd like to read about it.
