Seven weeks ago eight teams stood in a bracket to see who would get the lone slot remaining in this Wednesday's Out of Bounds show. Eight teams with hopes and dreams, eight teams with glory in their eyes.

Seven weeks ( and one bomb threat) later, seven of those teams now know the foul taste of defeat. Their dreams violated and desecrated, all glimmer of hope and happiness taken from them in what was a momentous competition....

On Friday, One Too went up against the Bridgeport Wonen's Correstional Facility Short Form Players to see who gets to go to the finals. The Women's Correctional facility brought its toughest improvisors and through a series of games, sexual innuendo, and several threats of rape pulled of an amazing 22 minute set....but that was only half the match.

Valerie Ward brought her guest director Eric Heidberg and wove a tale about a 17-year-old sherriff, a Southern Belle, and a hippie with a banjo that could communicate with the deer she ran over in her car. But all was not well with this combination, as One Too began to argue, and eventually Eric stormed off leaving Valerie to not only finish the last 6:45 of her set alone, but she also got into an arguement with herself and at the 3 minute mark, Ms. Ward began to beat herself up mercilessly.

Then came the vote: One Too claimed the "W" and got to move on to the finals.

Saturday night was the "brawl for it all" - the finals, pitting the Leading Brands against One Too.

The usual coin toss was abandoned, and a series of "your momma" jokes set the order.

The Leading Brands, losing the Yo Momma round, was delegated to first. Their set was brash and brave, and this team once again pushed themselves to the limit, as they had an audience member shoose 2 team members to be abused as props the entire 22 minute set. We were treated to purple mountains, scooters, and waterfalls. And by the end, they had definitely made their mark.

One Too then took the stage, this time using guest director Andrea Young. After a musical introduction, the pair took us on a wild ride through the trials and tribulations of a girl who would do anything to be popular. And they did it all as a rock opera.

Both teams put on amazing performances. They showed why they deserved to be in the finals. But alas, only one slot was open, and we had two teams to fill it.

The audience spoke, and The Leading Brands took home the tournament victory, the OoB Cage Match trophy, and they claimed the slot as their own.

All good things must come to an end, and such was the case for the Out of Bounds Cage Match. During its run, we saw amazing improv from talented people, and we can just hope that they continue to push the limits and experiment as they have for this tournament.

So thanks to all of you who participated in this tournament, and a big thank you to all who helped make this a success.

We have a week off as Out of Bounds does their thing, but come on back Sept 8th as the AIC Cage Match begins anew. It's going to be a new season with a lot of changes and things to challenge both improvisor and audience alike.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Improv.
