While waiting for Rilo Kiley at Stubb's last night, it dawned on me that I've done a terrible job finding new bands in the year 2007. But I'm sure to find something in the live music capital of the world, huh?

I've been listening to Strawberry Jam a lot; I think it's my second-favorite record of the year, after the masterstroke that is Of Montreal's Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?. The "Kid Charlemagne" sample in "Champion" by Kanye West made me want to listen to my Steely Dan greatest hits CD last week.

Who else is excited for the new Fiery Furnaces record?

I haven't heard Fauna yet. Do you like it better than Icelandic Twins?

I never really got into Sunlandic Twins, though I find "Wraith Pinned to the Mist" incredibly catchy and well-suited for selling mid-priced, Australian-themed steaks. I love Hissing Fauna because it's a surprisingly personal statement from Kevin Barnes and a positive step in the band's glammed-up evolution.

Plus it contains at least four songs that can kick off a killer dance party.

Don't take the italics personally, that's my preferred method of indicating album titles.

I love Hissing Fauna. The Past Is A Grotesque Animal is one of the best songs of the year, in my opinion. (I love Strawberry Jam as well...)

Lately, I've been listening more and more to:

I heard Grace Potter and the Nocturnals @ ACL fest and the were AWESOME. She is hot and plays the hammond b3 organ - which is hotter.

The new Kelly Willis album is a masterpiece.

Also check out:
Cary Ann Hearst and the Gun Street Girls
Ryan Shaw (some good soul music)
Talib Kwelli's new album Ear Drum
Common's new album is pretty good as well

Nice, a shout out to one of my fellow Michigan expatriates! One of my friends went to school with Thomas Meluch, aka Benoît Pioulard.

Frickin LOVE EVOL. I've never heard of Wooden Shiips, but the cover looks like it's up my alley. And I just discovered Edith Frost earlier this year to my pleasure, but I haven't heard Telescopic yet. Lately I've been augmenting my music intake specifically from your posts on here, Bob. I keep wanting to talk with you about music. Among some questions I have for you is, do you like Teenage Fanclub?
