Tyvek - Fast Metabolism cd-r
I can't get enough of this Tyvek record. It includes the Summer Burns dbl-7" I bought recently, plus last year's "Mary Ellen Claims" / "Honda" single plus some other stuff they've recorded. They seem to be categorized as 'punk' (whatever that means nowadays), but they sound more like sloppy rockabilly Half Japanese type stuff, at times reminding me of the best parts of The Fall circa 79-81. I hope they tour here soon.



Wingtip Sloat - Santa on the Crappa cs
One of my early 90s low-fi indie holdouts that i still love. This was a 1995 cassette that they released -- copied overtop some other manufactured album -- that is a perfect jumble of found sounds, covers (galaxie 500, beatles, strangulated beatoffs, etc.), and live stuff. They just released a long over-due singles compilation, but this tape was a perfect statement of what they were about.



Karen Dalton - Cotton Eyed Joe 2xcd
After the successful reissues of her only two albums (from 1969 and 1971), a friend compiled this album from reel-to-reel tapes made circa 1962 in Colorado. Unlike the albums, these are just Karen's voice and her guitar or banjo and it is amazing. She worked with and inspired Bob Dylan and Fred Neil, yet would remain virtually unknown for years past her death.

I'm listening a lot to Wolfgang's Vault lately. It's a collection of live shows from Bill Graham's personal collection (his real name was Wolfgang, so hence the name) that are collected in one place. You can only buy a few of them, but you can listen to hundreds of complete live shows from, like, 30 years ago.

It's not super modern, but I defy you to listen to the 'Animals' concert from Pink Floyd in 1977 and not think they were pretty amazing. Also, peter gabriel at the Bottom Line in New York in 1977 premiering songs from his second album and sounding kinda tough.

Also, been listening to psych-pop from the 60's, like The Turtles and The Zombies, and a lot of Zappa, especially 'Bongo Fury' and the single song 'What's New In Baltimore?'

ManMan is playing at emo's on Sat. Oct 20th. Tickets will probably be pretty cheap. I saw them open for modest mouse recently and they put on a great show.
