I
do see your larger point. I just think it was a weak and desperate kick - and Dave's wearing a pretty big cup.
From my perspective - Palin is the one who looks petty and stupid (surprise!). I don't think Letterman is really taking a hit here.

Let's face facts. These things fuel the sides that people are already on. Supporters of Palin will say "Look how she took on the big celebrity figurehead. She's awesome!" Fans of Letterman will say "Look how he took on the stupid politician. He's awesome!"
Then in two weeks we will go on to talking about some other stupid non-point.

"A kick in the balls anywhere is a kick in the balls everywhere." I think that was Dr. King.

That speaks to my point. No matter what Letterman did, Palin's supporters would think she won and most of Letterman's supporters would think he won. So why not stick to your integrity and not alienate people like me in the middle who aren't blind supporters.

Really? I thought it was a P-Funk lyric.

That's the untold tragedy of King's life--he desperately wanted to be a lyricist. In fact, that's the tragedy of the life of Don King, as well... and Larry King. Only Nat King Cole fulfilled his life calling. Middle names people... middle names.

But she WAS the inspiration for Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean," so she was a vessel for a song... which counts by technicality.
