I'd love to be able to have a strong, well-articulated position on this issue. But this is a real conundrum for me. The libertarian in me isn't fond of the idea of gun control. The incident on Halloween where an an ex-con fired 30 rounds through his front door killing a treat-or-treater and severely wounding his companians make makes me think we need to explore some solutions that would make guns harder to obtain.
Remember that the 2nd Amenmdment wasn't designed solely to be able to muster up an America militia in time of war. It was also designed to allow the people to rise up against heir own government if need be.
Pdyx - I think you and I are going to have to respectfully disagree. I simply can't think of a good reason for someone to own a weapon capable of ending the lives of 500-600 people in less than a minute. I think I've said this before, but I could get behind the issue of front-loading, single shot muskets/ rifles. Weapons that required skill and aforethought to use.
I, too, have been trained in the use of firearms but sold my last handgun when i moved out of L.A some 14 years ago. I keep a bat and a handaxe within easy reach. I've also figured that if anyone really wants something of mine so badly that they're armed - they can have it. It's just stuff.
Guns and their control
Everything else, basically.

Right. That was my thought. If all we have is front-loading muskets and the government has AK-47s, we're not going to go very far.mpbrockman wrote:Remember that the 2nd Amenmdment wasn't designed solely to be able to muster up an America militia in time of war. Fair enough. I recognize I may be wrong about this and some or all of my other opinions. I also recognize that a lot of my opinions are disparate from at least 50% of the rest of the world's population.mpbrockman wrote:Pdyx - I think you and I are going to have to respectfully disagree.
