A musical version of fight club. I've already written the score... Jazz hands, "Can't talk about it. Can't talk about it."

Jill Morris wrote and starred in a Hoover's Blanket sketch titled "Ethel Merman Sings the Rules of Fight Club."

I was thinking about doing a 5 minute version of CLOVERFIELD, since it comes out a little while before the deadline.
On another note, the other movie that comes out next summer (besides The Dark Knight, duh) that I can hardly wait to see is this:

I'd like to do a 5 minute version of Be Kind Rewind.

Huh. Really? It'd have to be done before having seen it for it to be a contest entry. But it would be fun to make a 5 minute movie about a video store clerk who accidentally erases all the videos and has to remake all the movies with his buddy. Wow. That could be a lot of movies in 5 minutes.

I believe that you have to sign up for the contest and then two movies are given to you from which to choose one of them.
It's one of those "make a movie in forty-eight hours" contests.

Hmm. The site says, "It's free to compete and you can choose any movie under the sun to remake!", which runs counter to what you said, no? I'm sure the filmmakingfrenzy people could clear up any confusion.
ps If you did a five-minute Be Kind Rewind remake, not being 100% certain how the plot goes (or getting the plot wrong) could be part of the joke....

I'm pretty sure they're giving contestants a couple of weeks to make a 5-minute version of any movie they want.

I agree, but I like to play to win, and I can't help but think that doing Be Kind Rewind is such a clever idea that it can't win. On the other hand, it sounds very fun to do, so ideally I'd like to have a hand in making it as well as making Cloverfield or something else.
I don't know who in this thread is actually wanting to make a film for this contest, but it would be fun, I think, if the AIC had several entries. I don't have a camera or an editing program right now, but I'm still going to try to make a movie.
