Punchline at ColdTowne is co-produced by That Other Paper, and I believe improvisers get in free to that show.
It's a founding principle of the AIC that improvisers get into AIC-related shows free (if there are seats available). So we can support each other without financial burden, so we're cross-pollinating ideas, so we're as much of a community as possible.
And because improvisers only get in for free if there are available seats, we're not burdening the shows by bumping paying customers. If a show looks like it's going to sell out and you really want to see it, you buy a ticket.
I come to your shows, you come to my shows -- why are we passing a ten dollar bill back and forth like it matters?

Because on this show we have some costs to cover and while I appreciate the improv community, I think the improv community can also appreciate that. This is not an AIC-presented or sponsored show though I am going to plug the AIC in the course of it. We are trying different marketing routes and drink tickets and etc. etc. and things need to be simplified a bit. That includes unfortunately, that policy. There will be opportunities down the road for allowances for AIC members when the show undergoes a full-fledged run, but for the time being I hope people can come support the show and will not be rattled by the $10 admission price.

321Kill didn't allow for any comps; not that it would've been impossible to make it happen, we were obviously just trying to make a good impression with sheer numbers as well as numbers on paper.
As we grow, as we become more popular, as we're given opportunities at new venues, etc, we're going to see more instances of asking improvisers to pay. I don't think it's a good thing, I don't think it's a bad thing, it's just a sign that we're moving forward. At the Chicago training centers, you only get in free if you're an active student or on a house team, the notion of a 'member of the community' is more strict. And even then, there are several shows that students have to pay for if they want to see.
I'm just saying, I don't think anything like this undermines the principles of the AIC so long as there's a good reason.

This is all well and good. That said, I understand if people did not come to 321K because of money reasons. Producers of this and other shows that don't allow for free AIC admission likewise cannot be offended if people don't show up for financial reasons.arthursimone wrote:acrouch wrote: I come to your shows, you come to my shows -- why are we passing a ten dollar bill back and forth like it matters?

Now THAT said, if you can swing the dough, make the time, and have the interest, go support AICers in outside endeavors.

I agree, but I think it's also something worth fighting for if it's at all logistically possible. It's a powerful tool for keeping the community open and keeping it a community.arthursimone wrote:I'm just saying, I don't think anything like this undermines the principles of the AIC so long as there's a good reason.

This was some seriously funny shit. Great cast...great stories...minimal poker. The audience ate it up from what I could tell. Also, that poker table is badass.
