Hi, I'm Dyna Moe and I'll be teaching this workshop.
Monique's been painting me as a frightening shortform-hating bitch-slapping gorgon -- exactly what a dynamic hypeman should be doing! She's been creating controversy and starting a Muppets Take Manhattan style whispering campaign to compell curious Austinites rubberneck this workshop.
But, as the date grows nearer, I thought I should explain myself more wholly and maybe answer questions about what I is and who I do.
I'm from one of the first generations of students of the Upright Citizens Brigade and what I teach is influenced pretty heavily by what they -- Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, Matt Walsh (and Armando Diaz) -- taught. It's a very game-centric approach to longform. There's other elements to it (timing, heightening, object work) but it all comes back to what is the game and how do you wring as much humor out of it by playing (or not) playing it.
I work with all levels of players here from very new beginners to old pros, usually in the form of The Harold (which is the predominant form at the UCB Theatre) or The Movie (which is my particular area of expertise, I was in the first NY cast and directed the second cast).
I've logged hundreds of hours teaching and coaching improv and most students rate me high on clear communication and pin-pointing what isn't (or is... credit where it's due) working in a scene.
These workshops will be tailored toward what the group wants to work on. Even if it's just to complain about how much you hate Jason Mantzoukas.
I hope to see you all there... or I will have come 2000 miles for no reason.
Best,
Dyna
