I know and have played with many of those posting folks in many incarnations, J$.
Angie, telfer, Ed O'Rourke, Sammy Tamimi, Cholley and Steev are all my contempraries or former students in Chicago
I also sat in on many many incubator auditions and coached two of those teams at the Playground.
I would have thrown my hands in the air and thanked god, had a Jeremy Lamb walked through that incuabtor audition back in 2002 when I was seriously coaching.
You did Austin a solid with that second post.
I can't say I disagree with anything you said originally.
Chicago IS cliquish. It IS hard to get stage time if you haven't gone through each theater's Proper channels"
Very very very few indie teams in Chicago succeed (Schadenfreude, being the only example I can think of that garnered critical and Comemrical success out of "The System"...and they only did sketch...no improv. But, again, they all came out of one Second City Conservatory Class.
I do know that the Available Cupholders are one of my all time favorite teams.
Jeremy Lamb is one of my all time Favorite improvisers
Austin does have more performance opportunities for talented people (and trying to get talented people) who have just shown up in the city.
Chicago does require a little more hype and gladhanding to succeed...but the good and talented really do rise to the top there with a little patience (2 years of not doing anything reputation-breaking or shitty).
I am posting this on the Chicago site too.

If you disrespect your character, or play it just for laughs, it will sell some gags, but it's all technique.

I did one of the silly dances at the playground too, but have little interest in trying to find it.DollarBill wrote: AND HOLY SHIT!!! THE LOST "SILLY DANCES" TAPES!
