I'm watching The Big Sleep right now, and hankerin' to play in some noir, if there's room for me.

I'll be around the Hideout Saturday, maybe playing Micetro.

Even if I don't play, I want to pass this little "trick" on to the noir show. The fundamental character trait for any major character (i.e., not color characters, of which there should be plenty) is that they all have alterior motives. All of them. The only one whose motives are clear to the audience should be the protagonist, but he will play all kinds of head games with the other characters. The other characters will be subtly (or sometimes not-so-subtly) deceiving one or more characters in the film, and usually trying to play characters against one another.

Also, in my opinion, the most enjoyable noir protagonists are the ones who are a little crooked. Well, maybe not crooked, but they're not stricktly "good." They've gotta be flawed--drug addicts, alcoholics, gamblers, former hit-men.. They lurk in the muck of society and clean themselves off once in a while to separate themselves from the scum they bust.

This is probably really obvious to everyone, so I'm sorry I said it.

This will be a fun format to play with, maybe even as a scripted piece. Hmm..

You work your life away and what do they give?
You're only killing yourself to live

A slot has been saved for you, fear not! ( Just wear black clothes..though dark grey works as well) Warm-ups are at 10:30 this Sat, though I think most of the cast is participating in Maestro as well..if that's the case, then we'll just do a short warmup and discussion before the show. I don't know what kind of audience we'll have due to ACL, but if the show goes on, I just want everyone to have fun with it. If the performers like the format, I'll ask for a slot next rotation and put on "Star Noirs".

I just want to take the time to give a very big THANK YOU to all those involved in the Mother Goose: Noir! show. To all the performers, our musicial support, the tech booth, and even those who came to support the show I just want to say thanks. This was put together rather quickly and I doubt it would have succeded at all were it not for the talented group of people I got to perform/work with tonight.

We were able to put together three tales of Noir for the evening:

1) The 'Princess and the Pea', where nothing was as it seemed. There was drama, there was intrigue, and we had a 'princess' with "Great Cones" In the end, most of the players lay dead, and the Queen got to take over the kingdom.

2) We also got to find out who murdered Humpty Dumpty, and why. Old King Cole was not the merry old soul that history portrayed him as, and we saw a police officer/private investigator betray his partner for money.
Everyone got what was coming to them, as Humpty's widow got even - and the kingdom.

3) We then saw the exploits of Rapunzel and her daring escape from the witch that held her captive. We also met a young Prince, who sought a bride to take his virginity from him. Bigby Wolf let us know who really ran the forest, and we finally had our happy ending.

I really enjoyed this show and let me just say once again, thank you to all who were involved both on the stage and in the audience.
