I thoroughly enjoyed "Get Low" for those masterful performances.

Get Low is worth watching. Not the greatest writing but wonderfully acted.

Forget the fact that it was written by a writer who never wrote a feature before, so technically HE'S a whippersnapper too.
You can analyze a can of gravy and come up with fancy terms for it's viscosity -- that doesn't mean the manufacturer put in the same amount of effort while making it.
Granted, I concede to your point of view for no other reason than the fact that we are isolating everyone in the improv community every time we make a qualitative argument about filmmaking. I see no point in character assassination over such things.

i haven't seen the movie yet (though i want to...love me some Duvall), so i don't know if this analogy is apt or not...but Jesse, would you consider Prospero the protagonist in the Tempest? because that sounds much like the dynamic described so far...Prospero spends much of the play "dictating activities to other characters" and reacting "very rarely to external forces." he also "withheld information and drove the plot along based on predetermined agenda" whereas everyone else is reacting to Prospero's manipulations, either directly (Ariel, Ferdinand), indirectly (Antonio, Alonso) or contrarily (Caliban, Stephano, Trinculo). and i think it would be difficult to make the argument that Ferdinand is more the protagonist of the play than Prospero. if that context helps give it some perspective.
because Shakespeare is always right.

Hey, Kathy, can you please not try to "educate" people on what acting is, the basic components of what a film is, and how to structure a story in this thread? Thanks, I'd really appreciate it.KathyRose wrote:No, no, but these young whippersnappers think they know everything. No knives please.
I was just responding to Spots' "critique" of the film; but sure. "You're welcome."Justin D. wrote:Hey, Kathy, can you please not try to "educate" people on what acting is, the basic components of what a film is, and how to structure a story in this thread? Thanks, I'd really appreciate it.

I've also redacted some of my "controversial" """"critiques"""".

I put "educate" in quotes because your posts here take on the same lecture-like tone that many of your other recent posts do where you inform others of the definitions of terms used in writing, film, acting, and other pursuits that many people here are already intimately familiar with. Thus, the quotes are there because you're not really educating people or talking with them as much as you're talking at them or trying to talk down to them.KathyRose wrote:I was just responding to Spots' "critique" of the film; but sure. And now, hopefully, back to the regularly scheduled thread.
