I'll definitely admit to feeling the magic and the art every now and then. And I also strive when I write or produce a show to keep it more in the realm of theater than comedy, but I still calculate out as much as "feel" out a show. Maybe that's why I'm not better than I am? Marthist: I'm into it.

Aren't you drawing a line between intuition and playing your best bet a little fine? What I mean is the choices one makes are based on as much input as possible from all sources. Not just "feel" or a high percentage choice - but a some of both.

You're right. But I don't think I was trying to say that intuition=art and conscious thought=math. I think intuition and calculation can be present in both. Probably HAVE to be for either to be good. I just think that the more intuitive players seem to be more natural...
I guess...What I mean is, sometimes I actually FEEL artistic and see the full product as art and sometimes I just FEEL like a jokesmith. Not that one is better than the other. Just feels like there's a difference. I can be proud of both.

yeah, i can definitely relate to this...there are shows i'll walk off stage and be fully satisfied and feel like the audience had a great experience, but i won't feel like i created anything or discovered anything. and in those times it's hard to regard what i just did as "art." which is not to devalue it. and for all i know it could BE art...but perception is reality, yadda yadda yadda...
