So when do we start the great rewatch of the entire series to watch it with knowing eyes? I assume Jeff already has.

The more I think about the afterlife ending, the more it makes sense in the context of Lost. I mean, we've been seeing ghosts and communing with the dead for a good portion of it, and ultimately the forces on the island had to do with the balance of good and evil.

I appreciate what this reviewer has to say about how LOST, whether or not it works as a whole narrative, was really stellar at nailing certain moments throughout the series.

And this is a slight revision of my response to Peter's own finale review:
I love that, as Bogey and Bergman will "always have Paris," I'll always have those six years of LOST-- caring about the characters, growing through my thirties with them, and the shared adventure of following the story with good friends. The finale had plenty of spot-on emotional hits, not the least of which is Sawyer's kiss with Juliet in front of the candy machine. I love how such a simple and brief scene helped heal my aching over Sawyer's devastating loss of Juliet at the end of season 5.

And here's my summary about LOST detractors: I look at the parallels to real life. What great mysteries have we solved in the realm of ontology? Why are we here? Who or what or who-what created us? Were we in fact created? Is there a God? Is there a soul? Is, merrily, life but a dream? I could attempt to answer those questions as best as I can. If my answers aren't satisfying to some people, though, I hope they won't hold that against me as a person. Few people know the origin of the ritual of tying tin cans to the back of newlyweds' cars, and nobody yet has ascertained the biological source of a cat's purr*, but people don't ever get up in arms over those things. They just figure out that it really doesn't matter.
I didn't get much satisfaction from the Temple scenes, and I think there are lots of awkward holes in the story, but ultimately, I was engaged with and excited by so many moments in the series that I find even the seemingly glaring flaws easily forgivable. But I don't believe the lack of answers counts as a flaw. The whole series can be looked at as a 120-hour-long zen koan-- I have a good time coming up with answers for myself, and similarly, I like to contemplate tons of other unanswerable questions in this life. And most of all, the writers and producers and cast of LOST most definitely did something right, in that they inspired many hours of spirited and fun theorizing with my friends.
*I'm sure I'd confirmed in the past that this was true about our knowledge of cats, but I just looked it up on the Internet, and apparently humanity has solved that mystery: It turns out that cats have special wiring! The wiring travels from the brain to the muscles in the voice box, and this wiring is able to vibrate the muscles so that they act as a valve for air flowing past the voice box. The muscles work both during inhalation and exhalation, which creates the impression that cats can purr continuously. The air passes through the valve, which opens and closes rapidly to create the purring sound. - howstuffworks.com Hmm. That was more interesting to me when there was no answer for it.

(and then i'll have to hunt around online to see if anyone uploaded the "special feature" on the complete series boxed set of Ben and Hurley's time on the Island. cuz i want to see it, but i'm not repurchasing DVDs i already have for a 15 minute featurette...YET!)
