Video conversion
OK folks,
What's the best way to convert between video file formats? In this case mpeg4 to .wmv or .avi or .asf or something easier to handle in Windows.
I'm farting around with something called Hamster right now, but I don't seem to be giving the codecs the correct instructions since it seems to want to compress the file further, which really makes hash of it. Either that or the program blows (but where I'm concerned I always suspect human error first).
Ideas?

Hmmm... it'll play just about anything I throw at it. However, it won't do any converting. ERROR: UNABLE TO PREPARE MOVIE is the standard response.

Yikes! I tried downloading the Mac version and it fried my ASIO settings, essentially shutting down the studio. I trashed it and re-set everything so no harm done. Just a heads up for anyone who might try using this on a computer set up for audio work only.mpbrockman wrote:Hmmm... it'll play just about anything I throw at it. Everything was actually cool until I put the little avi converter module thingy into my QT folder where they told me to. Then everything went to hell. I think (even though I've set it up so my DAW should always have audio priority) that MPEG Streamclip was overriding my settings so QT had priority and it runs at way lower samplerates than I use for my DAW. Thus, one confused DAW unable to set samplerates.

This is more or less working. Although the resultant .avi files crash Windows Movie Maker. Wax (another vid editing program I have) loads the files just fine but won't play back the audio - just the video. Ever run into those problem when you try to use Pazera files elsewhere, Jill?jillybee72 wrote:I <3 http://www.pazera-software.com/products ... converter/

Aha! Ignore the auto conversion function and use one of the .wmv codecs. You still end up with an .avi but suddenly Windows Movie Maker likes the results just fine. I still haven't figured out how to get audio out of Wax 2.0 yet - but strides are being made!mpbrockman wrote:This is more or less working.
