Mike Daisey comes to town for "The Last Cargo Cult"

Post by the_orf »

Critically acclaimed monologist Mike Daisey brings his latest work, "The Last Cargo Cult" to Austin for two nights, Tuesday & Wednesday, Sept. 21-22, at 8 pm.

Performances will be at the McCullough Theatre, next to Bass Concert Hall on the campus of U.T. Student tickets are available for $10.

I HIGHLY recommend seeing this man perform. He's pretty much the direct artistic descendant of Spalding Gray: he sits at a table with notes and glass of water, and proceeds to weave true-life stories and insightful analyses together in a way that provokes, engages, stimulates, can make you shake your head with amazement, and cause you to laugh out loud. He's freakin' brilliant. I for one have been personally lobbying him to come to Austin from NYC for years now, and I'm totally stoked he's finally doing a show here.

If only he were sticking around long enough to be the monologist for Stool Pigeon... now that would be a show with some rich material. Alas, he's here for two nights only.

So go see the show!

I second this. Mike Daisey's "How Theater Failed America" was the most brilliant, amazing, and utterly accomplished theatrical event I have ever seen IN MY LIFE.

I mean that.

I'm going Wednesday night.
