Cage Match- New Format... Same Time and Place

Post by Michael »

Beginning this weekend, September 18th, the traditional Cage Match Tournament format will be replaced with a new experimental one. The winner of Saturday's match will go on to play the following weekend against a new opponent. The Winner of that match will play the following weekend...and so on. So instead of the previous "bracket style tournament", Cage Match will now resemble a "Hold The Court" format. In theory, one troupe could play every Saturday Night at 9pm @ Coldtowne Theater, if they kept winning!
If you would like to sign up for a future date to enter the Cage Match, please send me an email at mjameswilliams(at)gmail(dot)com with:

They had at least 8 or 9 victories in a row under their belt. I remember going to a few of those shows right when I first started taking classes at the Hideout.

This is not necessarily a permanent change. Believe it or not, audiences were much better during the tournament format

That's totally believable. I can trick/harass/beg my friends to come once or twice in a short timeframe, but week after week after week? Not happening.

There may be some nostalgia going on here: when these other groups had their epic runs, the houses were half-filled with improvisers.

Of course, that was back when there we were afraid that opening up a third improv slot would kill houses across the city.

How many shows a week of improv do we have going on these days? Twenty?

ColdTowne has 13-14 a week (that's including our late night free crazy shows). It's got to be more than that now.

I tried to do the math and I think it's around 30 depending on the week. It varies because of things like ColdTowne's late night show (which is sometimes improv), if Cafe Caffeine has a 10 pm show, if SVT/Gnap! does an improv show at 10 pm on a Friday, etc.

[EDIT-Roy posted while I was posting]

So that's ~20 with just Hideout and ColdTowne.

Cafe Caffeine has 2 ComedySportz shows a week (maybe also 10 pm shows?)

SVT/Gnap! has Fridays and Saturdays at 8 and Saturdays at 10 (minimum of 3? Am I forgetting anything?)

The New Movement has Wed. at 8 and 9:30, Friday at 9:30 and Sat at 9:30 (sometimes addt'l shows at 8 on weekends or late night shows)

If I'm forgetting something or leaving stuff out let me know, but I think that puts us around 30.
