Kid's Improv!

Post by emelendez »

Hi There!

I’m looking for 5-6 players who would be interested in developing a new kid’s improv troupe to complement the other good kid’s improv projects like Flying Theater Machine. The vision for this troupe would be:

*Classic Themes – Definitely following the Hero’s Journey and drawing inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen and some of the non-violent, less creepy Grimm’s stuff among other influences folks suggest

*Simple yet interesting stories kids can follow with minimal TV or pop-culture references – think mini Harolds and such

*While drawing inspiration from the classics, try to take some different spins on gender and relationships – not every story needs to end with a marriage, tidy answers or fake emotions :)

I have a couple of potential venues in mind as soon as late October. Some could even be paying gigs.

I figure the right players for something like this either have experience OR an interest in playing with kids ages 5-8. I think you’re a great fit if you think there is a lack of entertainment for kids that is genuinely cool AND appropriate to where they are developmentally. Let me know if you’re interested and we’ll schedule a play date and discussion to explore it more.

I would love to do this! I'm currently in the troupe Shades of Brown. I am also a third grade teacher and do an afterschool Drama Club at my school, where we use a lot of improv. You can email me at crazica07@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Erica

This sounds really cool Ed, and something I would be interested in. Timing's a bit terrible for me though.

Here's the timing for now. Expecting a run in Nov-Dec for sure. The others are TBD. I'm thinking practice could start in October.

I just moved to town and have experience in Improv and performing for Children. I toured 3 ESL shows around Spain and did a theatre project in Mexico with children. I would LOVE to join in on this troupe for kids!!!!!!!!!
