Be a part of Eris 2035

Post by Roy Janik »

PGraph is looking for help with our new science-fiction themed format, Eris 2035.

Basically, we'd like to get a collection of "video messages" that we can play during our shows.

The premise is simple. You're a friend, a family member, husband, wife, or whatever of someone currently up in space, and you've recorded a brief video message that will be transmitted to them.

There are good examples of these in Moon and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Here's one I recorded off my teevee:

So we're looking for you to record a message that we can plug into many situations. Just upload the video somewhere and send us a link to download.

some pointers:
* address the camera as if you were addressing a person.
* don't give the person you're talking to a name, since we won't know their name until the show. Feel free to call them Sweety, champ, buddy, son, etc...
* similarly, stay vague about what they're actually doing in space.
* it's more about the relationship between the people than any sci-fi stuff.
* By all means if you have a kid or a pet, incorporate them into the video.
* Feel free to show your surroundings, the more cluttered and warm the better, but hide anything that sets the video egregiously in the current time.
* Play a character who looks like you... That is, if you're a 20something year-old man, play a 20something year-old man.

Our run starts this Friday the 20th, but there's no reason you can't record a video after that.

Send links to videos or questions to roy@pgraph.com.

Thanks!

How long should the videos be?

Oh yeah, length!

Like 2 minutes at most. We want them short and sweet. Feel free to record multiple videos as different characters, too.

Here, I did the most ghetto thing possible... I put Moon on my TV, and recorded an example of a video letter on my iphone.

This one is pretty perfect. The only thing I would change for the show is that she wouldn't call him by his name.

This is a really cool idea. I might recruit some of my non-improviser actor friends to do up a nice one for you.
