Ran across this quote from Alan Watts:
Krishnamurti spoke a great deal about being choicelessly aware. He said, "Freedom is precisely the state of not having to choose." Now, that sounds quite paradoxical, because we are always talking about freedom of choice, but choice in this sense of the word is not a form of freedom.
What is choice in Krishnamurti's sense of the word? It is the act of hesitation that comes before making a decision. It is a mental wobbling, much like when some people take up a pen to write but don't just start writing; they jiggle the pen around indecisively for a while and then start.
When a person comes into a room and hesitates and wonders who to talk to, in that moment he is choosing. Whereas when a person comes into a room and goes up to someone without waiting to choose, we say he is decisive. But that is a funny thing to say, because it really means that he hadn't stopped to decide.

I leave my phone in one pocket, wallet in the other. For security, balance, and time checking. Best of all worlds!acrouch wrote:I take everything out of my pockets except for my phone so I can check the time.the_reverend wrote:probably good from a financial security standpoint, but i can't have anything in my pockets when i go onstage or i feel oddly out of balance. lol!michaelmcgeary wrote: And the best advice ever given an actor ,from george burns:"always take your wallet on stage with you"

hahaha you guys is a hooters..It's george's way of telling you that even the great george burns can't give advice on acting, all he can do is relate experience...but youse guys 'r probly on stage timing your scene and getting your lines texted in. Hey has anybody tried that..improvise a scene.the audience texts lines to the actors..the actors 'flesh them out' with who what when where etc. how would that work?

Yep, I did that a few weeks ago during a scene in the Fancy Pants Mashup show. Gave the audience my phone number, and had them text lines to me, to be used in a "blind line" kind of scene. So. Many. Texts. All at once. It was kind of a clusterfuck, but a huge load of fun.michaelmcgeary wrote: youse guys 'r probly on stage timing your scene and getting your lines texted in. I've done it for a few shows and have been surprised at the people who decide to send texts on and off for a few days after the show. One of them was definitely Sean Hill.majcher wrote:Yep, I did that a few weeks ago during a scene in the Fancy Pants Mashup show. overheard from Amanda Palmer during the Dresden Dolls show at La Zona Rosa in November whilst having her keyboard elevated mid-concert. it's my new favorite quote, especially apropos of improv, and the only reason i haven't added it before now is that i thought i already had. :p
"There's a fine line between perfection and not knowing what the fuck you're doing." -Amanda Palmer
