I'm a big fan of the coyote.
I think the shirt would look cool. It's a good symbol. People can see the coyote and think about us.

I really like Craigy's thumbs up with the AI in it. It just looked cool and finished and positive.
But I wonder about AI's connotations as in Artificial Intelligence.
I think a thumbs up would be a great symbol to have on stuff. I'm not sure if I get the hopscotch thing. I love the new motto, everything from nothing, and I'm not sure if hopscotch communicates that.

it's true that the hopscotch doesn't really have anything to do with the motto. I also really like the thumbs up with ai in it- maybe it could be adapted to say aic? just because we decided something earlier, like "we want to be called austin improv and nothing else" doesn't mean we can't change it, and decide we want to be The Austin Improv Community or Co-op or whatever.

I want to chime in that a) I also love Craigy's thumb's up logo, especially if it has the little Capitol building on top, because it says Austin and it is weird and playful; b)I don't get the hopscoth thing, either; c) I also worry about the initial AI referring in most peoples' minds to artificial intelligence in general and a Spielberg movie in particular. (Speaking of that, in Oklahoma on my Christmas trip I saw ina restaurant a great old NRA placard, but it was of course for Roosevelt's National Recovery Administartion, not the National Rifle Assosciation. I digress, nerdishly.)
I think, though, that we should include the full name of our organization, whatever we settle on, and not initials, 'cause the public's not going to know what those initials mean.
Personally, I would be in favor of expanding our scope to include sketch troupes under our fold, and then we could change our name to the Austin Sketch and Improv Federation (AS IF).

i also really like the thumbs-up with the capitol in the thumb. we want to make austin improv nationally known, so i think it is important that our logo promote both austin and improv.
another reason i like the thumbs up is that it's great for marketing. dane cook has his little hand signal that he uses for self-promotion and it's a huge deal for his fanbase. i understand that the thumbs up is a universal signal and we can't say we made it up, but it would be fun to adopt it as an austin improv thing.

Thumbs up for Thumbs up!
I really dug Craig's thumbs up because it was silly, fun, universal, and above all else, simple. You could always throw in "Ausitn Improv Community" in a circle around it or anywhere for that matter.
I too feel that there is a need for the AI (or AIC, or AS IF) logo to be related to Austin or Texas; however, I also feel that it's not necessarily something mandatory. I love Texas, but I've always felt Texas Souvenirs or Texasafied Objects to be a little on the silly side. I'm not sure how I feel about an Austinized things either. Sorry for being the dumper guy.
Alas, poor Craig, we've thoroughly thrashed and scarred all of his wonderful hopscotch childhood memories, but seriously Craig, I just don't get either.

i love the capitol building as the dot in the "i" in a big way.

I like the thumbs up as the negative space in the "a". I have mixed feelings about the capital as the dot of the "i". It makes it harder to tell that it's an "i".
What font is the "austin improv" in?

I like these logos, they have a nice look to them. I especially like some of the thumbs up ones...
My only problem is, the thumbs up is a highly recognizable sign and might be confused with other personalities (Ebert & Roeper) or businesses who use the thumbs up. I think a possible variation on the idea of the thumbs up (like a more prominent captiol building on top) would help with this.
Also, on a matter of the motto, I, personally feel, that the logo and the motto (although not necessarily directly related) should flow impossibly well together. I feel like a lot of these logos are fantastic looking, and are fantastic ideas, but they don't seem to flow with the motto to me.
Everything from nothing just doesn't make me think of hopscotch or the capitol, or vice versa.
Also, I think that with a name like AUSTIN IMPROV, we don't necessarily need to point out in the logo/motto that our improv is from texas or point out the Austin connection. Austin has a pretty wide reputation for being an awesome city and I feel like we'll spread the coolness of Austin more by touring and revealing our amazing improv styles/skills, rather than by including the capitol or the shape of texas or something into our logo. To me that just seems to border on the gimmicky.
that's my two-cents.
thanks.

I like the use of fire/matches/flame to further the motto- everything from nothing. It really embodies the idea of starting with something small, just a kernel of an idea, like a suggestion, and growing into somehting enourmous, feeding off of everything it comes into contact with. I will think about and play with these ideas more later.

I googled images of "Nothing" and here's what came up.

Interesting how someone else marketing the Everything/Nothing idea.
Sorry I don't know how to re-size it for the Forum.
