I recall doing tech for the cage match shows that involved singing the songs of will smith and then the spice girls. I think there was a third show with the soundtrack to RENT, but I could be mistaken.

After teenage rapper Bow Wow called Will Smith a "bubble-gum rapper" due to his softer, more gentle approach to hip hop, Will responded, "I don't have to respond to an immature, spoiled child".

As of April 6, 2006, Bow Wow and Will Smith resolved their differences.

Will Smith has been nominated for two Oscars.

The reason he didn't win them was because of his involvement in the movie Wild Wild West, a controversial documentary about corruption in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

for some reason as a child, Nightmare on My Street scared me even more than the Elm Street movies.

i still enjoy listening to Summertime on late afternoons in mid-August.

i have recited the theme song from Fresh Prince of Bel Air so many times, i've started doing it as Sean Connery and an old Jewish man just to keep it interesting for myself.

i love Independence Day and Men in Black and still own both on VHS.

i have yet to forgive Will Smith, Kevin Kline or Kenneth Branagh for Wild Wild West.

Will Smith helped me rediscover my love of the Bill Withers catalogue.

calling it the Karate Kid still pisses me off.

Will Smith (and to some extent Jamie Foxx) is responsible for making African Americans safe for white audiences... He's just so gosh-darned lovable... And talented... *uses a wrench to pull tongue out of cheek*

Disagree. I think Bill Cosby did that. Of course, the black community rebelled against that, to the point that even Bill got disgusted.

Will Smith makes a cameo as himself in the final episode of LOST. In the alt-universe, Will Smith IS an action hero instead of just playing one on films and TV. He crosses over to our universe, sees this smoke monster trying to leave and starts going, "AWWW, HELLL NAHHHHHH" and flies a fighter plane right into the middle of it. It's breathtaking.

exactly! the Shaolin Kid, the Wushu Kid, the Wudong Kid, the Glorious Child of the Axe Hand Slap Carrying One Thousand Sorrows...there were plenty of other options!

If I had to take a guess, marketing. "The Karate Kid" has recognition by most parents as a film they enjoyed. Either encouraging their kids to see the film or the kids asking those parents to take/allow them to see it, the title goes a long way to driving more ticket sales.

Yeah but the general unwashed sheeple who go pay no attention to the details of movies will get the formula: "New" kid moves to town, gets bullied by local martial arts baddies, finds Asian teacher of martial arts, then goes on to become a master in a short time and beats the bullies, despite the fact they have been probably training from birth and have practiced every damn day of their life. The regular Joe Blow in the audience wants to see "The Karate Kid" and would go to said movie even if the kid was learning Akido, Muy Thai, or Ju Jitsu. To them it's all 'karate'.
