Hey, does anyone want to start an Eclecticism book club with me?
You should be open to authors like Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Louis Carroll, Philip K. Dick, Jack Finney and Frank Miller; as well as Beatrix Potter, Mary Shelly, Alice Hoffman, Katherine Neville and Anne McCaffrey.

Hmmm... read most of these authors. Love Carroll, PKD and Shelley. Neutral on most, but can't stand Neville and McCaffrey.
Might be interested.
How do you feel about Mark Leyner, Julian Barnes, Denis Diderot, Martin Amis, Umberto Eco, Italo Calvino and Nikolai Gogol; maybe Philip Roth or Sinclair Lewis for sociology and politics, Ursula Leguin for fantasy, Jasper Fforde or Chris Moore for laughs and Walter Miller for arguably the best sci-fi novel ever?
How about non-fiction, say: Bucky Fuller, Charles Mackay, Dan Boorstein, Winston Churchill, Richard Dawkins, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Paglia, Dennett, Kaminer, Solzhenitsyn, Sagan, Gibbons ...? The list goes on...
How about the late (and dear) Molly Ivins for Texas flavor.
Poetry? Say Rumi?
Maybe if we do this we should get up a list of titles and do a poll. Or one person a week nominates 3 books and the rest vote on which one to do.
Or is Sara god for the purposes of this endeavor?
Just noticed my list is a bit male-heavy (22/5). I'm pretty sure, though, that Camille Paglia could kick all the guys asses.

How about bios? Meade on Dorothy Parker, Tanenhaus on Whittaker Chambers, Ackroyd on Dickens, Farwell on Burton, LaCouture on Degaulle, Perrin on Michael O'Donoghue and Collins and Skover's "Trial of Lenny Bruce' spring to mind.
There's a great one on William Wallace I read once, but I can't remember the author.

I've read The Name of the Rose and Babbit and liked both. Don't know the other authors... which is GREAT! Looking for fun new books.
Okay. Now that we have 5 ppl (Jeff, R U N?), let's pick a time/day to discuss our first book... I'm willing to host, but my guess is that it would be better to do this centrally.
Do you think we could agree on a starter book?
