Lone Star Curling! Sweep, y'all!

Post by Mo Daviau »

Curling, the sport involving brooms, ice, smooth stones with handles, and yelling SWEEP! has finally come to Austin. This sport is popular in Canada, and hence I am interested. Are you interested in curling? Basically, it's sliding a stone on a shuffleboard-like grid on the ice, while four people SWEEP! the ice to direct the stone where they want it to go.

Some local Canadians are starting up the Lone Star Curling Club this fall, and I for one am joining! If any of you are interested in curling, too, let me know and I will pass along their information.

SWEEP!

from the title of this thread i thought that curling had been brought to texas but that the stone had been replaced by bottles of lone star.

can we play it that way?

Having lived in Minnesota for 2 years, I have to admitt that this sounds fun. Don't know that I have time for it right now, though. I'm assuming this is still a winter sport, right?

No skating. Their website requires "clean sneakers" and "pants that stretch." I think the person that throws the stone slides along the ice and requires special slider shoes.

Yes, this is a winter sport. It doesn't start until October. And you don't have to commit to every game, you can just go whenever.

I have an intense mild interest here. What's the schedule? What's the web site?

Perhaps your mild interest would be intensified if we added some classically Austin elements to curling, such as breakfast tacos and a live band?
