Okay, Lance, you're right. AND...I do hope everything comes around nicely.
BUT the writing has been pretty lame. I did like THE SUBSTITUTE for the most part,
but I almost feel like LOST is slowly taking us by the hand like children with so much redundant info.
The Temple stuff is driving me bonkers. I don't like this secrecy bullshit. It's lame. And the whole Sayid thing.
There's a lot of stuff I jiust don't care about right now. And again, CLAIRE is NOT a badass. Unless
she does something really nuts. The axe in the gut made me laugh. I don't like laughing AT Lost.

I like the writing this season, but Lighthouse was a big exception for me. Most of the dialogue is contrived and corny. I have faith the writing will only be better than that, and never as bad as that, for the remainder of the series.HerrHerr wrote: BUT the writing has been pretty lame.
CLAIRE is NOT a badass.
And the Claire thing, that's an excellent example of this episode's weak writing. If the story is re-introducing Claire as a badass jungle survivalist, Claire should do something bad ass. Instead, all I remember her doing was releasing Jin's leg from a trap, and being so afraid of a bound man who was begging for his life that she slew him with a hatchet. That kind of behavior seems psychotic and paranoid to me, but the writers didn't include any details I can recall that drove home for sure the fact that Claire is psychotic and paranoid. Instead, they leave us guessing, and after all the interesting stuff LOST has brought to the table in the last few seasons, that's just not a mystery that I feel like spending any time on right now. I'd like they just tell me what's Claire's deal. (In that last sentence, I was looking at you, next episode...]
I also have faith that we'll learn that Claire is definitely not a badass, and that she has in fact become a paranoid psychopath. I didn't like to see Claire kill that guy. That sure was mean.

Yeah, I mean bad-ass in that she's survived in the jungle for three years. Who knows, maybe she's
been given guidance on how to trap a pig and gut it by Christian...in the same manner
that Hurley has confidence hrough Jacob...but I doubt it.
BUT they do try to show how bad-ass she is. As mentioned, she frees Jin, sews him up,
hatchets the OTHER. Also, a few other little things....really projecting onto the viewer.
Yeah, I feel like they are either doing a bad job of showing how bad-ass she is OR sending
conflicting signals.
Also, Claire's friend is Smocke (taken from Peter). How long has she been his friend...?
Please, for the love of LOST, have this corrected soon....LOST writers...

What made me laugh was that the guy she gutted was one of the kids from Degrassi Junior High and the guy he was hanging out with was one of the guys from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The casting pulled me out of things a little bit.HerrHerr wrote:Okay, Lance, you're right. AND...I do hope everything comes around nicely.

Other than that, I'm not sure what the complaint is. Claire is the new Rousseau. Lost her baby and is now on her own and surviving as best as she can while she tries to find him. Why wouldn't she be a little nuts? Or is it that it isn't working the way they made her nuts? I'm LOST on your critique here.
Anyone remember if Rousseau bore the marks of being tortured/tested? Anyone remember if Rousseau's torture of Sayid looked like the test that was done on him in the temple?
Claire talks about infection to Jin. Does she mean the same thing as they did in the temple?
I agree, I don't buy Claire as a badass yet, but that's more of an acting thing at the moment.
She's crazy.
You didn't think that her having made a fake baby out of a skull and button eyes and putting it in Aaron's crib drives home her psychosis? Or that part where she looks at Jin with crazy eyes to ask him "You're still my friend, right Jin?".Jeff wrote:the writers didn't include any details I can recall that drove home for sure the fact that Claire is psychotic and paranoid.

I think this story line has purpose.
I like LOST.

Yeah, you're right. I thought the baby doll was nicely done on the part of the prop makers. I think I messed up as an audience member by going, "Ooo neat" as opposed to, "My, how creepy!"Lants wrote:I agree, I don't buy Claire as a badass yet, but that's more of an acting thing at the moment.

Do we need a new Rousseau? I don't know, maybe there will be more parallels with other characters. If so,Asaf wrote:

they better be careful, the show is already busy with connections.
My complaint is that I don't buy Claire as a "bad-ass" in the sense that she's managed to live in the
jungle for three years utilizing traps and whatnot...partly the dialogue, partly the acting, partly the costuming and
make-up and partly the actions--such as axing the guy, sewing up Jin. Okay, so maybe she's possessed or something
and that's how's she survived. The package they are presenting in all the aforementioned writing and production
elements is weak though..to me. Yeah, she's nuts as well, but it's a little silly to me.
Stupid baby beaver skull in a basket.
Anyway, there's so much focus on individual characters without a lot of cross-cutting between people on the island, so, yeah, like
Lance and others have mentioned...they're probably amping up for something sweet...but it's so "draggy" right now.

Oh yeah, I just remembered that I owe Ceej a beer. Ha. Christ, did the H-bomb kill anybody at all?Jeff wrote:Touché.HerrHerr wrote:Yeah, but the funny thing is that back in 1977 I predicted that this season would end with the hydrogen bomb going off, so...until we can establish who dies and doesn't and what death even means...you'll have to wait until next year to get a beer. I mean seriously...how do we not know that the force of the island didn't lessen the impact of the bomb? Also, I didn't see anyone check Locke's pulse...Jeff wrote: True. I mean, if we can agree that the hydrogen bomb went off, and that detonated hydrogen bombs always kill people who are in their immediate vicinity (if those people are not protected by refrigerators), and that our circa '77 heroes were in the hydrogen bomb's immediate vicinity (sans the shelter of a refrigerator), then we can agree that those people were killed and Ceej owes me a beer.

The extras are funny to m on the show. They've done a great job of letting these people
just hover around in the background. Yes, I pronbably get a beer..but we STILL have to wait and see
how it all plays out.
Okay, I gotta admit something. There's like, thirteen episodes remaining, so there's plenty of time
for LOST to get all its ducks in a row. And of course, what the hell IS the island anyway...?
Curious about Widmore. Is he involved in Jacob and Smocke's game...? Was he candidate at some point...?
I had the thought that Essau was Christian before he became Locke. That he's trapped in Locke's because
he has had Jacob killed...but Christian's gotta come back...

here's a thought I had the other night re names:
Kate's name is not on the cave wall. But it is on the lighthouse dial (#51, http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Jacob%27s_candidates)
Jacob takes Hurley and Jack to the lighthouse. Smoke takes Sawyer to the cave.
I think Smoke lied, and that the cave is his list. It makes so much sense, especially considering the prevalent themes of light and dark- smoke has a cave, Jacob has a lighthouse. They are both looking for possible replacements for themselves. They don't necessarily have the same list.
