Gnap!/Merlin Works Two Year anniversary--workshops!!

Post by shando »

Hey, there was a thread somewhere that was talking about this, but I can't seem to find it again. And that's fine, as these should be separate announcements anyway.

So, those of you who saw Splendid Things from the Twin Cities at OoB last year were likely as blown away as Shana and I were. We really like how they play--fast, aggressive, working within genre but not afraid to twist said genres inside out, narrative but without sacrificing meaningful character work.

When it was time to ask a guest from out of town to come play at our 2 year anniversary, they were our first choices. And fortunately they were available.

While they're in town, they'll be teaching some workshop in addition to playing. These classes are now live and ready for registration. Sessions are $40, btw.

Saturday, February 20, 1-4: IMPROV OUTSIDE OF YOURSELF

This workshop will help you train yourself to reach deep inside your creative self and produce characters outside your personal comfort zone and life experience. Through explorations of genre, archetypes and theatricality, you'll learn methods for pushing past the safe, stereotypical character choices and into a far more interesting spectrum of fully-realized ones.

Sunday, February 21, 1-4: EMOTIONAL KEYS

Whether performing a scene in a suburban kitchen, a French moonbase or a post-apocalyptic insane asylum, the key to engaging, truthful scenework is your characters' emotional investment. In this workshop, we will explore a number of techniques to keep your emotions genuine, no matter how extreme, while still keeping your characters' journey active through storytelling.

Don't miss out. Hannah, Eric, and Michael are cool people.

Hmm. Hard to tell from those descriptions why I should take both of these.

Bump bump bump. Saturday class getting full, Sunday has more slots.

These guys are awesome. Remember way back when we were talking about how one day there might be some kind of super-style, merging the best of narrative improv and more character-based approaches? These guys have maybe found it and it's one of the reasons I like them so much.

Dear Shannon & Shana,

Thank you very much for bringing the "Splendid Things" group to ATX. They were so much fun to watch, and I loved being in the Sunday workshop. I feel I will be a stronger, faster, mightier improviser now that I've worked under their tutelage. Thanks for spreading the love!

Muchas Gracias!
