It’s been two years since Merlin Works and Gnap! had our big grand opening. Come celebrate two years of shows, classes and community. These tickets will get you in to a full weekend of shows.
On Friday, two newish Gnap! troupes, Casual Whale and Hugaday, will open for Splendid Things from Minneapolis. After that show, we’ll have a party at 10pm. This party is free and open to the public. Free drinks, food, and dance music by DJ Manateeman.
On Saturday at 8, Get Up will join Splendid Things in an epic of improv goodness. Then at 10 pm, Anticdotes will open up for the predictably unpredictable The Knuckleball Now.
All this for the low low price of $15. Don’t sleep on it.
About Spledid Things:
Splendid Things brings together three of the Twin Cities’ top improvisers to create comedy with emotional intensity, intelligence and a distinctively theatrical style. They mix grounded, naturalistic scenework with dark absurdism for an improv show that manages to be sober and ridiculous at once. The group’s members have performed together in various capacities over the years, but Splendid Things marks the first time that all three have joined forces. Splendid Things is Eric Knobel, Hannah Kuhlmann and Michael Ritchie… can you believe it?

As part of the festivities, we've invited our pals Splendid Things
from Minneapolis down to play with us, and they'll also be teaching
workshops. Thought you might want to know about them, as they'll be
bringing some sweet new learning to Austin to add to your improv tool
belt.

Here are some descriptions & links if you'd like to register!
Both classes run from 1 to 4 at SVT.
Saturday 2/20: Improv Outside of Yourself
This workshop will help you train yourself to reach deep inside your
creative self and produce characters outside your personal comfort
zone and life experience. Through explorations of genre, archetypes
and theatricality, you'll learn methods for pushing past the safe,
stereotypical character choices and into a far more interesting
spectrum of fully-realized ones.

Sunday 2/21: Emotional Keys
Whether performing a scene in a suburban kitchen, a French moonbase or
a post-apocalyptic insane asylum, the key to engaging, truthful
scenework is your characters' emotional investment. In this workshop,
we will explore a number of techniques to keep your emotions genuine,
no matter how extreme, while still keeping your characters' journey
active through storytelling.
