Special Performance of Imp, this Sunday!

Post by kbadr »

This is a special treat. Headlining The Hideout's Level 5 Student Showcase this week will be none other than the project that first brought Asaf to Austin (I believe): Imp.

Hailing originally from New York City, imp. has been performing nationally since 2002, combining the inspirations of Commedia dell¹Arte, Cirque du Soleil, Jacques Tati and Bill Irwin into their improvisation. The resulting amalgam plays with lazzi as plot, relationships that are influenced by small gestures and narratives based on basic emotions played to a more extreme degree.

In the course of a show, they play out several vignettes using as few words as possible, if any, instead communicating with action and emotion and expression and physicality, bringing audience members into the mix whenever possible. imp. always holds to its basic tenets of what makes a story and its characters engaging and how the body can be used more potently to convey those ideas.

This Sunday at 7pm. $5 guarantees your seat.

I can't in good conscience tell anyone to go see this show, since I'm playing opposite it . . . but I will say that Imp was one of the best improv shows I've ever seen, and that if I could be there I would.

But that's as far as I'm going.

IMP rocks it! Great physicality in this show!

In this instance, does "headlining" mean that Imp is performing first, or last? I'm assuming it's last, hoping, even...

It's been a long time since Imp performed in Austin, so a lot of you have never experienced it before. It really is one of the most unique, compelling improv shows I've seen.
