RLM rehearsing
I wanted to start a thread about rehearsing in RLM bc it seems that many improv troupes do this. Maybe you are new to the community and wondered why this was so. 5.5 years ago, when GGG formed, we needed a rehearsal space other than the hideout. As I was a grad student with an office in RLM, I said we should rehearse there, namely in the 4th floor auditorium. We have been rehearsing there on Sunday nights ever since (minus the relatively few times that the room is occupied by students). Then Foolish Mortals formed, and once again, I suggested we rehearse at RLM. Then I joined Wooden Nickel, and once again... Then those people were in troupes with other people and slowly but surely, it seemed on any given night that there would be a veritable AIC reunion on the 4th floor.
I do not mean to imply that I or GGG own the 4th floor room. However, I thought it would be nice if we all threw out who rehearsed at RLM during the week, so that if another troupe was already rehearsing there, maybe other troupes could plan to find space in a different room in RLM or in the literally hundreds of rooms around campus.
So, GGG rehearses from 5:30-8:30 in RLM in the 4th floor auditorium. Anyone else?

Andrea, is it true that any group without a person with UT credentials (student or staff ID card holders) could be charged with trespassing should they get caught by the UT cops? It was always my understanding that we rehearsed there because of your capacity to officially use RLM space, not because it's an unlocked building with a big lecture hall.

Feel free to cut and paste this list into your post and add to it.
Sunday
4-6pm - Skipfield
5:30-8:30 - GGG in the 4th floor auditorium
Tuesday
7-9pm - The Starter Kit
7-9:30 - Unnamed Cinematic Improv project
Thank you for starting this thread, Andrea.
It should be mentioned that GGG specifically uses the auditorium because of the equipment Brockman has to bring in.
For other groups, in other slots, we should be able to to agree that the auditorium be used on a first come, first serve basis, correct?

Actually it's enough of a pain in the ass just getting that stuff into the auditorium. Getting it up stairs/sporadically-working escalators is just that much more hassle. I greatly appreciate the consideration, folks.

We (The Kit of Starting) do rehearse on Tuesdays from 7-9:30 as Asaf mentioned, but we do try to aim for classroom space on a higher floor. I've never been too worried about the ability to use classroom space as I have been a student until now.
If you're looking into space at RLM, particularly classroom space, I think the main objective is that you should be extra careful to not bother any sort of night classes or organizational meetings. These people do reserve rooms for specific times. People do study up in RLM and classes do meet in various rooms at night. As long as you don't bug the students/teachers, they're more than happy to share the building with you.
Also, if you use the 4th floor auditorium during the week, be careful about doing any sort of jumping or stomping. There's a laser lab right below you in the basement. That giant petawatt laser is the most powerful laser on earth and is brighter than the sun's surface. They tend to get antsy if you make a lot of ruckus, and rightfully so. As someone who used to work in a lab, it can be a pain.

I was in a cover band once and we used to crash large auditorium-type classrooms every week for rehearsal space. We even got kicked out by a summer class once...but not before the professor used our PA to announce instructions for a test she was administering.

So nearly 7 years in, and RLM is still going strong as the unofficial rehearsal space of many a troupe...
Snackers, The Glamping Trip, GGG (I presume on occasion), and many many many more, I'm sure.
