Help with the B. Iden Payne nominations

Post by Dave »

Hello

The B. Iden Payne Awards are coming up and we are going to be putting a list of every Austin-based troupe and show into the Out of Bounds Program for audience members to nominate troupes and/or shows for this years awards in October. We'll also be doing an online submission on these here forums for folks that won't be seeing any OoB shows.

We'll be doing it this way this year to help ensure that the improv category is on the actual ballot and not just a rushed inside job as it has been in the past.

This post isn't for nominating. I would just like y'all to go over this list, find your groups and shows and make sure there aren't any 2009 troupes or shows I am missing... or to make a case for any of these that should be stricken form the record, (out-of-town names, one-offs that never showed up... that sort of thing) or any Troupe names that should be in the Shows column and vice versa.

This will be the list that people will get to nominate from... kind of like picking all-stars at a MLB game in June.

Feel free to email me at buckprov@yahoo.com or PM me here to help me edit this list. Deadline is Wednesday the 12th.

If you disrespect your character, or play it just for laughs, it will sell some gags, but it's all technique.

Hmm, Unbeaten was last October/November. Doesn't that miss the deadline?

Cochise belongs in the show category, not the troupe. It was IFE and friends.

I'm not sure what the cut-off date is for shows, but Some Like It Improvised was last September.

Some of those shows are sketch, not improv. If that's intentional, you can add Midnight Society Presents (Midnight Society's monthly sketch show) to the list.

What the Dicken's was a one off for the marathon. The real show will be up in November and December.

I think Maestro show be under shows.

I'm not sure about Flying Theater Machine. I think maybe we are more of a troupe that puts on shows. The shows this year have been: Monster Families, You Drive, Wild Wild Puppets, Fairly Silly Fairy Tales.

By the way; Thanks for doing this Dave!

Four square on the Moon is Escape Hatch's old name. It can be erased. Transcontinental is just Northshore Local's nom de plume. it can be erased as well.

I love you guys! I was looking at moving back to Portland and I emailed a comic friend and asked how the comedy scene was there, she said "it's thriving, we have 3 improv troupes now!"

I (heart) Austin.

Oh, and is Mamet on there, did I miss it?
